Hey guys,
I received an invitation to an interview from NYCOM today. However, it is on December 13. Is that a later one or one of their earlier interview days. I ask because I have an acceptance from KCUMB and I would rather have to make a decision between the two than sending in two $1,000 checks just to secure a spot.

Congrats!!!

I thought they start interviewing in November. I suppose they set you up depending on how competitive you are compared to other applicants.

Wow, that's bad timing since the kcumb deposit is due on dec. 15. It sounds like it's one of their earlier interview days. It might not be the very earliest, but it has to be on the early end since they just started sending invitations what last week and interview through March or so. Maybe you'll find that you like KCUMB better. 🙂 Otherwise, you might be stuck with the double deposit, which stinks.

How did they contact you? Phone? E-mail? Snail mail?

Hey USArmyDoc-

Congrats on the interview. I too am interviewing on December 13th. I asked the admissions office today how early in the interview cycle that is, and she said the interviews begin the week before. So we are in the first two weeks of interviews; she said we are right at the beginning of the pack! Not to worry. See you there 🙂!

I am from NY, and I also received an interview. It came in a normal sized envelope with the invitation letter, the secondary, a map, and travel accomdation information 🙂.

all of you who received interview invites, when did you send LORs? Did you confirm their receipt? Thanks!

I sent my LORs in the first week of September. I did not confirm the receipt of them, but I will tomorrow, just to be on the safe side.

I was an August MCAT retaker also. I was surprised to be interviewed before my August MCAT by KCUMB. 🙂

HunterGatherer said:
shenningdo are you still going to the Open House in November?

I actually couldn't make it even before I was invited for an interview. I will be in California. I went last year though; it was so great!

Shenningdo, you think its possible to get moved up to the first interview date to possibly work my way around sending in two $1,000 checks? Let me know what you think. I may give them a ring tomorrow.

I think they would absolutely work with you. When I received both NYCOM and UMDNJ's invites in the mail for the same interview day, I chose to move UMDNJ's and they were totally cooperative. I would call and explain your situation. Be honest and tell them you love both schools, but you want to avoid going any further into debt. Ask to speak to Joanne; she is such a nice lady! Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I'll let you know man!

USArmyDoc,

Except for my MCAT essay (only one letter difference) score, my stats are exactly the same as yours! It's scary!

Woman ... 🙂... Good luck!

Oops! 🙄 I swear when I tell you this. I was thinking, watch I am going to say "man" and its going to be a woman. Damn, how ironic!

Priu, I bet your invitation is on the way. It is very scary 😉

Hopefully I'll be posting the good news tomorrow.
Congrats again!

It won't hurt you not to go, but I think it is always a good idea to attend open houses of any schools you are interested in. It can get you excited about your future or detour you from a school for which you are not a good fit. NYCOM is amazing, but not every school is for everyone. Good luck!

In my opinion, the great asset NYCOM has is its reputation in New York. There are so many NYCOM graduates getting great residencies its crazy. Especially since I am going to most likely stay in New York thats a big plus. 🙂

I just called them to check on my LOR's and they said i got an interview. Early December!!!

AWESOME!!!

Lady said that not having LOR will NOT hold up your application, only final decision.

Looks like i am also joining the "suckers-that-must-plunk-one-grand-at-backup-school" club. Their deposit is due december 15th.

I sent in my AACOMAS around July 15th. Got complete letter around mid August. Sent LORs around Mid September.

Congratulations! Looks like you will get an envelope in the mail soon. Good luck on your interview, and I hope to be one of your classmates in the Fall at NYCOM 🙂!

I thought NYCOM had only sent that generic letter stating they would start reviewing apps in November 😕

The first round of interview invitations went out on Tuesday; people local to NYCOM received their letters yesterday. People a few states away should receive them today 🙂. Good luck. I am sure yours is in the mail.

congrats folks. Hopefully some of us August MCATers will get some interviews before the year is up.

You should attend the open house especially if NYCOM is your top choice. Showing interest helps.

So I just called NYCOM and dealt with the most inept person. She wouldn't even bother to give me any specific answer to my questions. I didn't receive anything in the mail today so I thought I would call but that proved useless. Total waste of my cellular minutes! Anyone else enjoy the non-love NYCOM gives on the phone? The woman was like "They only way I could find out that information is to go to another room and sift through all of the files which are unorganized at this time." Rrrrrright.

did anyone else get a letter from NYCOM saying not to send lors until requested?

BTW congrats on the invites.

huh! that didn't work out so well for me! I called to check on my LORs and she didn't even bother getting my name. She just said that when the adcom reviews the files if something is missing they will contact you. thanks alot!!

You must have spoken to the same woman that I did! Hmph! I guess we will just have to find out the old fashioned way! 🙄

So totally unprofessional! I understand being "bothered" by having to actually "do" her job by answering the phone but COME on, it is her job to answer the phone in a polite manner and address the concerns and questions of us in some respectful way. I was very polite to her regardless of her reluctance to even answer my questions.

If everyone single applicant called everyday because they didn't get an invite the office staff would be ridiculously busy. Every pre-med student seems to think they're the only applicant to the school and the secretaries and admissions staff has endless amounts of time to speak with them and check up on them daily. Just sit tight. If it's meant to be, it will happen.

My gosh, I hope you all aren't calling every single day! That's just taking away time they could spend reviewing MY application! lol just kidding

yay! i too called today, and actually spoke to a very accomodating woman, who took my name and said she'd call back to let me know the status of my app. When she called, she said an interview invite had been sent out! 😀

my date is dec. 6 at 11 AM? anyone else?

the lady I called sounded really annoyed. She didnt even ask for my name either. Just said that when the committee reviews your file, they'll let you know via email if anything's missing in your file. I think they're fed up with us SDNers calling.

You are so lucky. I wish my interview was on the 6th. Mine is one week later on the 13th. Good luck, and congrats!
