I just received my letter that tells me that I have been granted an interview at NYCOM. It seems really late in the interviewing process, and I was kind of interested to find out if anyone knew (or thought) that this interview is just for a waitlist position or if they still had open seats available. It is pretty expensive for me to travel there, so I am weighing my options. I have already been accepted to another school, but I am still interested in NYCOM. I just don't want to waste my time and money at this point for another waitlist position when I am going to have to be moving in a couple of months to another state. I just don't want to move, sign a lease, and then get accepted.

Also, I was reading about their curriculum on their website, and I noticed that it said that the curriculum was being overhauled in the fall of 2005. Does anyone know anything about this? I just found it by mistake when I was looking around.

I would appreciate any input that anyone has.

Thanks so much

NYCOM started interviewing people very late, I believe it was in November when the first people were invited. They also have a huge class size, 200+. I am not positive but I would assume that you have a very good shot at a seat at this point.

I just got an invite from NYCOM too, although it might be because I applied kind of late (September) and I'm from out of state...

yeah me too, i got mine about a month ago. i decided that it wasnt worth it to interview, plus i have my heart set on COMP. the 200+ class size scares me a bit.

i thought it was really arrogant for them to interview so many so late. im sure they missed out on many great applicants or made some lose their deposits somewhere else.

I just had lunch with the dean today, and she mentioned that we have accepted enough people for all the open spots for the class of 2009, however they are still interviewing because they know that many students have multiple acceptances and end up in another school.

As for the curriculum next year, the important thing about is that there is now a pilot PBL program available for 40 students (meaning no lectures, just case-based group study using paper-patients). The rest of the students are still on a lecture-based system. Also, I think they are integrating early clinical exposure to the first year curriculum, more so than what we did this year, so this is a good thing. You'll be exposed to the standardized patients, I believe you'll be required to be part of a mentorship program where you meet with a primary care doc once a week, and you get to work with "Stan" the robot. It's pretty cool!

Good luck on your interviews!

 :luck: I just got an interview at NYCOM and CCOM too

When did everyone submit their primaries that are getting interview invites this week. My friend applied in September and they keep saying she is under review. I was just wondering if they are interviewing people that applied during this time frame still.

I know someone who applied in July and got an interview invite in March.

I dont think that NYCOM does waitlist interviews. I remember someone interviewing on the last week of interviews and accepted a few weeks later.

i barely made the feb 1 deadline, and i received a letter in the mail for an interview last wed (4/27). when i scheduled my interview, the lady i spoke with said that they're still interviewing for placement and not waitlisting.

did you hear anything back from them yet? i definately know that there are people on the nycom waitlist as of today..i stopped by and saw atleast one "waitlist update" form that someone had filled out and sent back to them indicating they still wanted to stay on the waitlist..i have yet to hear of anyone interviewing from april till now getting an acceptance. seems like their class may be filled. maybe they accepted aggressively earlier on in the year to avoid last year's apparent difficulty in filling the class. i unfortunately havent heard from them. I also saw a pile of rejection letters waiting to be mailed out..very short. 2 sentences to be exact. Ouch. i hope im not one but as of now ..im already disheartned by the presence of people on waitlist while i have yet to even hear anything. 🙁
