Just to update everyone on NYCOM. I called them earlier today and asked the nice lady if I could possibly find out if my application is complete. She said that the school is in the process of this right now and will be sending out notices to applicants within the next couple of weeks. So, I don't know if that means that they really haven't started reviewing our files yet, and I also don't know if that means that they are sending interview invites out or if they are sending out just "application complete" notices. I didn't want to bother her too much b/c I really hate calling these people. But I just thought I'd give my info to you guys.

yes, i would send them without waiting for them to ask for them. It'll speed up your application. I don't know exactly what the requirements are but I sent 2 science undergrads profs, 1 undergrad major prof, and 1 DO.

I also went and did a search to see when was the first time someone got an interview last year from NYCOM and it was on 9/30 but they cancelled it. So the next time was 10/20 but they didn't schedule it and then the next time I saw that someone actually received/scheduled was: Invited on 11/7 and interviewed on 11/21. Hope this helps even though it makes me a bit frustrated since this is past the 11/14 mark for the schools we have acceptances to that we need to put deposits down on.

i called NYCOM today. i am not sure if the LOR are required to be sent in...but she advised me to send them in now! so i did. i read somewhere that you need to send in at least 1 comittee letter OR 3 faculty, of which 2 MUST be science professors. hope this helps.

me too, I got two emails, the first one didn't say who it was from and the second one was the exact same as the first but had the school's name under the director of admissions name finally. I had to laugh...

I had applied to five osteopathic schools, including NYCOM which is my first choice by an order of magnitude. Mainly because I want to stay on Long Island and also because I truly believe the residencies are outstanding as they are in affiliation with north shore hospitals across the island, etc... However, I applied the first possible day you could and while I have heard back from and completed secondaries from everywhere else, I have yet to even receive any confirmation about anything from NYCOM. Is anybody in the same boat as me? I have never received that email posted above, while some have said they received it twice! Did all you guys definitely receive a confirmation email from NYCOM? Thanks 😎

i received that notice twice yesterday (error on their part im sure) anyways you should call them to make sure they have your app. supposedly they are handing out interviews in nov....

Hello all,

NYCOM takes awhile to process things. I would just relax and wait. Patience solve all problems... theres no need to be so jitty, esp so early in the game. I would make sure that NYCOM receives all your LOR, esp the DO's LOR.

NYCOM is also housing st.george med school kids, about 600 of them due to the tragic storm recently that went through the carribeans. So there are a lot of changes from now till end of december. It won't affect your entering class, but it just means that NYCOM has a lot of responsibilities so things might be a bit slower than usual.

Hope I didn't speak out of line, but w/ all due respect, just trying to let you guys know what is going on from the inside so there won't be any bad misconception about NYCOM.

Yes, NYCOM takes a while. I was not invited to interview until late Feb. of last year, for an interview date of early April and was accepted four weeks later ... So don't ever try to read too much into this crazy process. Good Luck to you all! 😀

I got that e-mail few times. I have not seen email about the citizenship, and I am foreign. They do accept foreign students so I don't think citizenship will be a factor, but I'm sure the positions are limited. I haven't heard anything from them in a long time so I've almost forgotten about them.

I sent them letters right after my AACOM application was processed. I don't think you have to wait to send recommendation letters.

I don't think they'll give you an interview invite without your letters of recommendation. So you should send those in immediately.

Well I thought its better to send the recommendations in so that they can review recommendations when reviewing my file. Not sure if they will but if they do then recommendations can make a difference.

Hi all. thanks. I just called NYCOM and admissions rep said to send the letters now, before receiving an interview invite/secondary. However, when I asked if they would be reviewed before an interview invite was extended I didn't get a clear answer. I guess sending them now can't hurt. 🙂

I don't think they are interviewing yet. They are the slowest but then again, we don't have to pay secondary fees before interview !!
