NYCPM Pre-Health Internship

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah I was accepted as well. JMUpod where will you be coming from?

I'll be coming from NJ, so it's just a 45 minute drive for me. I guess you'll be flying?

-I guess you'll be flying?
You bet. I've never been to New York before so I hope that it'll be fun.

I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. We're supposed to get info in the mail soon... I'm looking forward to it!

what is this pre-health internship? can someone please explain? thanks!

The internship is a 3-day event where future pod students get to see what the profession is all about as well as see what a day in the life on a pod student is like. You get to go to a lab class and I think you also get to shadow a podiatrist on your last day. It's just a way to see if this is really what you want to do as well as meet other future pod students as well. Hope I explained it well enough, lol.

Um isn't the NYCPM pre-health internship a 5 week long deal? The only "short" (4 - 8 days) internships that I know exist are at Temple and Ohio.

I don't think there's anything on their website about it. I'm on their e-mail list so that's how I found out about it. I'm not sure how many people are going. We're supposed to go to classes, labs, and shadow in the foot clinic of NY. It should be a good way to get a feel for the school and the profession. It's only 3 days, you're probably thinking of the Pre-Matriculation program that's longer.

I'm going to NYCPM on July, too~! I think they are accepting 5 students for the program. See you there~!

Just 5? Wow, I feel pretty special now! 🙂

The email I received had been sent to 7 other email addresses.

they accept anything and anyone. good luck with them. they will stick you in with the lowest performing students in the country. that is where all the ghetto people apply, no one else will take them, not even Barry!!!

I love how Charlie just shows up every couple of months to get his trash-talk on in EVERY current NYCPM thread.

OK, Charlie. We get it. You hate NYCPM.

:ninja: :diebanana:

Oh boy, good thing somebody warned me about this ghetto school. I better get out of this internship now. I'm sure shadowing DPMs in the foot clinic of NY is going to be an awful and useless experience!

LOL. Why do people have to show up on every thread and have to be hostile?

I think he used to go there or something. The pre-health internship sounds pretty good to me as you can meet students, faculty, shadow a bit, etc. I completed a week long internship at OCPM. I feel the best thing is asking the students questions when the admissions people are not around (to get the most truthful answers). You may end up likiing NYCPM, I didn't though, but that is my own opinion/view of the school.

Hey guys I couldnt help but notice Charlie and his constant try to bring NYCPM down. I was just wondering if anyone knew his story and why he has these feelins against NYCPM.

Hey johnnyp, I have friends.. you just facebooked me. LOL

How was the internship?!? I recently applied to the January 2009 internship and I'm curious.

It was a lot of fun actually. Learned a great deal about the school and area its in.

You did the internship at NYCPM Jewmongous? I didn't know that. Which one? Last January or July?

I meant the pre-mat program in the summer. I guess the internship is a relatively new thing right? That would probably be more comparable to OCPM's, which was a week long and you stay with a 1st/2nd year student.

I didn't do NYCPM's but I have the flier on my fridge cause I was going to do it before I found out you can't do if you have already applied. It's just three days long. You stay in their housing.

Would you care to elaborate just a bit? For those of us who may commit themselves to this school for four years, any opinion is appreciated. Did you like the students? The staff? Did the old building bother you?

How many people did the internship with you? I guess I am a bit concerned about getting accepted since I am a music major and not a typical applicant. I applied to the one at NYCPM and the one at OCPM. Both sound fabulous!
