I got WL at NYIT and wanna know if it's worth spamming them with updates in hopes of a seat. Anybody have any ideas about the pros and cons of each?

Here's what I got thus far

TUNCOM
+ Vegas (big plus, hate the cold)
+ Cheaper in both COL and tuition
+ and - Far from home

NYIT:
+ No class ranks
+ p/f
+ and - close to home

we can fight George Soros together.....

In all seriousness, I chose NYITCOM cause I live 30 minutes away and if family support is ever needed its never too far away. This will prob be one of the hardest times of our lives so take as much opportunities for support as you can

I mean I love my fam and all, but...

Biased but NYIT

Penny for your more verbose thoughts?

NYIT! NY residencies !!!

But then you have to live in NY.... :barf:

I would go to TUNCOM but that’s just me 😀

OP it’s all about your preferences, make a pros and cons list for yourself. Both are fine schools

School reputation matters, location matters, especially post-merger. The northeast is the Mecca of residencies, and having a school in the heart of it all and widely recognized pays dividends down the line. Ppl say it’s all board scores, but when residency programs get 1500+ apps for their limited spots, any connection that is made (I.e hometown, school name and location, away rotations) kick in and it can mean the difference b/w getting an interview or not.

TUN isn’t bad, but you’re comparing a fish bowl to an ocean in terms of opportunities here.

Lol first you are greatly over exaggerating the benefit of NYIT over TUNCOM. Second, you missed my point. I personally wouldn’t ever want to live in NY for school or for residency so I don’t give two farts about how many programs are there. That’s why I told OP to make their own pros and cons list, because it’s different for everyone.

True, haha the difference isn’t as huge as that but there’s still a difference. And I agree, to each their own. But the opportunities are greater in NY for sure, particularly for the specialties like Gen Surg.

Although NYITCOM shows your grades as P/F on your transcript, you are unofficially placed into a class rank, with the top 10% honoring and inducted into the honor society, and then there is top quartile, middle, and lower quartile ranks. Depending on what rank you fall into, different verbiage is added to your MSPE letter for residency.

I would 100% go TUNCOM, because Vegas has tons of stuff to do, low cost of living, and no cold. Your pro list is identical to mine except the close to family part, because TUNCOM's 33 hours away from mine, but it's probably where I'm going to go.

NYC is fun to visit in the summer, but I really, really, hate the cold white stuff... and I do believe things like that matter in the end. I would personally be miserable in NYC, and when you take the debt burden into account, that's just a no go. Even though there are great residencies there, that just means you'll have a higher likelihood of matching up there, and then you'd have to spend at least seven years up there instead of just four. Seven years may be a drop in the bucket when taking your whole career into account, but it's still more time than I'd care to spend in the north.
