I've been accepted to both schools so far and if I decide on NYITCOM then I need to pay my deposit tomorrow but struggling with the decision. I'm from MA and ideally want to end up in MA for residency/practicing.

PCOM
Pros
  • Really liked the campus and the people (One of the student tour guides was an alumni at my undergrad so we had a good conversation about college)
  • More established
  • Very extensive simulation and patient practice rooms
  • Closer to the downtown Philadelphia then NY is to Manhattan
  • Less emphasis on OMM
Cons
  • Farther from home (support is big for me)
  • A little bit less known in MA (however looking through match list it seems that they usually have around 3-7 people match in MA every year)
  • Not P/F but graded A, B, C, D, F
  • Research seemed like it wasn't a priority and that you had to jump through hoops to get into it (could be wrong on this)

NYITCOM
Pros
  • Closer to home
  • True P/F grading
  • A lot of friends live in New York (queens, manhattan) so I would be closer to them
  • Seemed like students were encouraged to do research (could be wrong on this)

Cons
  • They are changing the curriculum for class of 2024
  • Campus is shared with undergrads

Summary: Both don't have mandatory attendance. I want to go into internal medicine and then a fellowship in infectious disease or anesthesiology so I'm not really gunning for a competitive speciality. I feel like PCOM has the edge but having trouble really deciding.

NYCOM all the way. true p/f omg thats heaven

PCOM if you're interested in a competitive field or want to keep more doors open as a DO. NYIT otherwise. They're both great schools. You'll be fine at either.

This is a great point OP. PCOM has in house residencies for the uber competitive specialties like ENT, plastics, ortho etc so if youre looking to do those def an edge going there over NYCOM. You said you like ID and gas though so NYCOM would be fine since the true P/F sounds bomb
