KCU (KC Campus) vs Touro Nevada vs California Health Sciences

I’m hoping to return to Southern California for residency, especially since my family is in San Diego. I’ve heard from multiple sources and have seen firsthand that KCU has the strongest reputation and is the most well-respected DO school out of the 3. The other two programs are definitely closer to home, which is something I strongly value, I’m feeling torn between choosing the program with the strongest track record versus being closer to my support system.

Prestige is not much a factor for do. If your top priority is to match southern ca than I would pick chsu or touro nv. They had some great matches last year to ca

if CA match is #1 priority then without a doubt CHSU. california residencies love california schools. Touro NV would be 2nd choice and since it’s regional to CA, there still will be quite a few matches into CA. KCU is definitely the most respected program on the list, but as with most DO schools and even some low tier MD, regional biases are massive. if you just wanted the best chance at competitive specialties, KCU. if you want CA match regardless of specialty, gotta go with the CA school.

KCU is awesome except that you run the risk of being sent out of state and further away from California for your third and fourth year rotations, as that is their model.
