Hey guys! I was recently accepted into NSU KPcom and NYITcom through both of their 7-year bs do program. My heart wants to go to NSU so I can get the college experience and learn what it feels like to live away from home. My gut is telling me to stick with the safer option NYIT because I get family support and I feel that it has a better medical program. Does anyone have any advice on which program or medical school is better or has better matches? I’m open to any suggestions and advice! I also was wondering if NSU Kpcom will affect the chances of my matching into a good or competitive residency compared to NYITcom and will it prepare me well for the MCAT. Thank you all for the help!

NYIT Pros:

-Better match rate and board scores

-Close to home (family support)

-In the future, I want to work in New York

-Tuition is a little cheaper

-living from home so the cost of living is cheaper

-NYITCOM is pass/fail grading

-Courses are already pre-scheduled for you

NYIT Cons:

-No college experience for undergrad

-No real campus

-Need a higher MCAT requirement (508)

-Only 33% matriculate into the medical school

-I will be stuck at home until I am 25

-Need 120 credits in 3 years before Medical school

NSU Pros:

-More favorable location and campus

-Easier MCAT requirement (502)

-Only need 90 major credits to continue into medical school

-Get a sense of independence away from home

-I heard more people matriculate into their medical school\

-NSU KPCOM is graded not by pass/fail

NSU Cons:

-Take courses first summer

-Tuition is slightly more expensive

-Cost of living is more expensive

-Weaker medical school

-Heard bad things about their board scores and match rates

-Need to schedule my own courses

Curious to know your decision. My son recently got admitted and like to connect with you to get more details. what is the acceptance rate into med school after getting selected to dual program

NYITCOM, it’s closer to home and if you end up going NSU, you will most likely match somewhere in the south.

Although NSU has been getting higher board scores and stronger match lists year by year, for the sake of lowering your COL and being close to support, 100% go to NYITCOM.

If you think you don’t want to risk lower MCAT’s etc., NSU is the much safer option. I’d argue both are fine schools (most schools have their unique set of problems anyways), but since you want to stay up north, you may have to work harder to get a higher score on the MCAT.
