NYMC Class of 2012!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If I don't come in off the waitlist at Arizona, I will be attending here for sure. I'm pretty excited. So how are the cops with speeding? All the curvy roads around Westchester get my heart pumping...

I know the cops can be pretty bad on the Taconic/Sprain. NYS speed limit is only 55, so that gets a lot of people tickets on the highway (traffic is usually going 65/75, but every so often the cops are there). Another thing is to keep an eye out for deer, they're pretty bad, esp in an area like NYMC, where it's woody/greenspace. I've had friends who have actually had deer run into the side of their car (40min N of NYMC granted).

I received the acceptance email today! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, I'm going to be a doctor!

Aww Congrats!!

I am actually moving back to NY this weekend to settle down before school starts (& b/c my bf got a kicka$$ job!).

Hey guys,

Just to give you hope, thought I'd mention that I gave up my NYMC interview a couple days ago. So if anyone's waiting on an interview, hopefully you'll get one soon!

Anyone get the finaid email today. UgH I'm so not ready to think about loans.

Anyone know when NYMC's semester begins? I looked on their website and was not able to find a date.

Hey, does anyone know if there is going to be a second look weekend?

Anyone decide on their lender yet?

just received my acceptance to NYMC!!! yessssss! 😀

I got into NYMC today and was wondering what to do. I have an in-state acceptance, which I also really enjoyed... but I really liked NYMC when I was there. Did anyone here turn down an in-state discount, and if so, what was your reasoning? I wish Westchester wasn't so pricey, it would make this choice easier.

I got in today as well, and will probably be attending. The only thing is the housing situation. I'm a bit older (27, almost 28 at matriculation) and haven't done the dorm-style thing since '99, and I'm really not sure I can handle the extra-long twin again. Anyone know how many first-years live off-campus? I'm going to try to convice my girlfriend to come along, but housing would be a necessity, obviously, and NYMC doesn't appear to have anything for those folks who are in a relationship, but w/o ring.

Also - Doctorveradoll. This is kind of scary. I live in Cambridge and am also an NU alum with a PoliSci degree (c/o 2004 though).

Sweet! I was only a poli sci minor, but I look forward to having a fellow Husky in class.

and You missed me, I actually just moved out of Cambridge (to NYC) last week. I'll be living off campus (30/40 minute commute) in Queens. I think a lot of students live off campus (at least that is the impression I got from talking to a few students.) I've been living with my bf for a year, so I don't think I could go back to dorm living. And I think my rent is cheaper then what we could find in Westchester.

I interviewed on March 26 and am really hoping this works out. I loved my interview day and was very impressed with the facilities. Plus, NYMC is my #1 choice!

PS: Has anyone written them a letter of intent/interest? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hey, I interviewed just before you did on March 10th and am waiting to hear back as well, loved the school. I did write them a letter of intent within the first week or two and sent it to Fern Juster using [email protected]. As far as I know it just goes to everyone on the adcom anyways. In it I just expressed my interest in the school and why I would be a good fit using examples from my interview day. Not really sure if it worked yet, but if you want any advice feel free to PM. Hope to see you guys next year!

hey, I interviewed in feb. and just got accepted to nymc two days ago-- I sent a letter of interest after my interview (about a month later), and also contacted my student tour guide via email about some questions I had. The student responded with answers to my qs and also let me know he'd forward my email to the adcoms so they'd know of my interest...every bit helps I guess! best of luck~~ :luck::luck::luck:

does anyone know the last date of interviews at NYMC, i checked the website and it only says April (no specfic date)...

thanks🙂

I just interviewed yesterday and the assistant dean of admissions told us that they are interviewing up until May7th. They also made it a point several times to stress that even the latest interviewees will be considered for open spots, not just for a spot on the waitlist.

Anyone know when NYMC's semester begins? I looked on their website and was not able to find a date.

I was accepted on 4/14, and received the actual letter 4/19. It said that orientation is expected to begin in early August...I don't think that have decided on the exact date, but it would probably be either 8/4.

hey all

insomniac 2nd year at nymc here. Ive lived off campus 1st and 2nd year and its been great. sure the dorms are fun and convenient for those that like simplicity, but man I love that feeling whenever Im leaving campus to go home. Id recommend tarrytown/sleepy hollow for off campus living. youve got grocery stores, diners, coffee places, and reasonable (for westchester) rent, and its only a 10 minute drive to campus. very doable. also, ive lined up an apartment in manhattan for next year where im rotating, which is also very doable. ok sleepy time

Does anyone know if NYMC has their lectures on podcasts or if they record them and put them on a website...etc.?

I am going to be part of the NYMC class of 2012 and I am wondering if there are a lot of Jewish students at NYMC. Are there any Synagogue's in the area? Do most of the Jewish students commute or do they live on campus? Thanks for the help.

I was also wondering the start date of NYMC... I can only find class of 2011 calendar, but not one for our class. Last year, their orientation was on 07/31-08/3... pretty early... wondering if it's around the same time for our class, coz I need to get air tickets for my vacation for the summer... (my summer holiday is so short, coz I don't end school till late June! 😡)

Also, do you guys know when we have to apply for housing? I heard housing application won't be out till late May, is that true? I don't want to miss it.

Yea, I also wonder if they have Podcast.....

And does anyone know if NYMC has a stimulation lab or not?

hey guys

we've been experimenting with posting the recordings of the lectures on the curriculum website called digital curriculum database, or "DCDB" but what we definitely do is record each lecture and have someone type it up verbatim and post the "scribes" on DCDB.

ha i dont know what a stimulation lab is (sounds kinky) but we have cardio simulators if thats what you mean? like a brain stimulation lab? I don't think we have that... westchester medical center might

What are the textbooks for NYMC MS1?

Thanks

Orientation is Aug 4th-11th. While I am happy to enjoy the summer, I am also pretty stoked to start back up.

I see I see, great, thanks for the information!! 🙂

emm, stimulation lab is where they have "fake human bodies" -- adult, child and baby -- that can "stimulate" all kinds of pathological conditions, they can adjust the heart beat, respiration, pulses, blood pressure, according to the assumed condition the "patient" has... and you can even draw blood from it using a computer stimulator. So 1st year and 2nd year students use that (since they don't have real patient contact that much yet), and try to "diagnose" the "stimulated patients." I think stimulation lab is really neat, and hope NYMC has one too.

Just got my acceptance email today, NYMC here I come!!! 😀

Does anyone know if the 2008 Orientation Web Page is up yet?

Is anyone else thinking about bringing a car to school? The gist I see is that having car makes life a ton easier and that parking is amazing.

Hell yea NYMC Class of 2012!!! I just got accepted two days ago. Of the schools I interviewed at this one was my top choice by far. Let's rally this thread (39 posts is pathetic)!

Hi all,

Congrats on getting accepted to NYMC! I really love this school! I know you'll enjoy it too.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the class of 2011 facebook group, and me...or someone...will answer there since I doubt many of us return here often.

ENJOY YOUR SUMMER

Accepted 5/12. Interviewed 4/28. 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Is Aug 4 - 11 official start dates?

I just hope the dinner cruise isn't going to be on Wednesday 8/6. I'm supposed to go see Jack Johnson. 🙂 But most likely it will be, seems to be the day they tend to pick. Praying that it's on Thursday though 🙁

Yay! I just got the e-mail today too! Accepted 5/12, interviewed 4/9.

Yayayay!!! I got in too...
The dates for the orientation - Aug 4th-11th...How did you find out? Is the website up? Have they been finalized?

They emailed us saying that "they look forward to seeing us on Aug 4th". And as posted above, there's the orientation schedule for 2007. Ours will be similar as it hasn't changed much in the past 5 years. So move in will prob be Aug 2nd/3rd, with classes officially starting Aug 11th. 🙂 Scary

Sorry double post ...just deleted other one🙁. Need my morning jolt of java!

Hi Doctorveradoll,

First & foremost congrats 👍 to you and all the other future NYMC class of 2012. Your post regarding commuting from Queens to NYMC grabbed my attention. I will be applying this Summer and I currently live in Queens. I honestly thought that I would have to relocate.

I just assumed that the commute from Queens to NYMC would be too taxing (visions of dog sleds trekking through the westchester wilderness!).However, a 30/40 min commute is not terribly horrendous. Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm not at all familiar with the area, so presumably the commute involves the subway and the metro north. Isn't the metro north somewhat more expensive??

Anyway, excuse the barrage of questions. I just would rather not relocate and wouldn't mind commuting if it's not too much of an imposition. Any insight you (or anyone else) can provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
