hahaha i called them today with the exact same question and got the same answer, but he didn't say that the class was full.
anyway i am submiting my application again and will hope to get some good news. I don't know whether the class is full or not, but if you'd check NYMC facebook group it has only 63 ppl in it ( 3 of them are current students).
 
I will be withdrawing my acceptance today. Just thought I would let you know. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys,

Just received my acceptance email yesterday too (email received at 12pm), 2 days before my birthday so needless to say this will probably go down as the best bday in a long time! This is my first MD acceptance and I'm definitely going.

Just to spread a little hope around, my stats were not particularly impressive, although I felt I had a great interview w/ Dr. Juster. 3.4 GPA, 3.3 science, 30R MCAT. Some hospital volunteering and shadowing, plus 2 years of cancer research post-college. I did NOT do an SMP. My app was complete at the beginning of August and didn't interview until 4/17. This was only my 2nd MD interview too (was waitlisted at the other school back in Nov. and haven't heard from them, but NYMC was my top choice anyways so I could care less now).

For all of you that are still waiting, keep your heads up and don't give up👍 I sincerely hope that as many of you as possible get in:luck:
 
Congrats to all those getting in off the waitlist!

I just called and asked almost the same thing lol. The guy on thursdays is really nice. He said to go ahead and apply to AMCAS and that it will not hurt our chances of getting in. He also said that as of today the class is full, but it changes on a daily/weekly basis and we could hear back as late as august 4th, the first day of registration.

another thing he told me that I didn't know before was that people on the adcom take our files home on thursdays and reviews them over the weekend b/ the office is closed on fridays and all. so our files are probably on some old doctors' tables having cookies and coffee spilled all over them right now...niceeeeee.

Congratulations, Crt! That makes at least 3 of us who got in from the 4/17 interview group. I was the short, funny guy. Who were you?

Thanks gplex same to you🙂. Who else from our interview group made it? I was also short, girl from boston college but graduated in 06 and had been doing cancer research for the past couple of years. I only really remember the people I was sitting with during all those presentations and the people that had the same interview time as me because we checked out the hospital together, so don't take it personal or anything but not sure if I remember you. Although I do vaguely remember someone being from U Michigan.

I think I remember you. I was the guy from U Michigan. I did check out the hospital, but I don't think it was with you guys. I was hanging out with the asian girl from California who arrived late and had to leave early. She got in too.

nothing so far this week? i'm on vacay in europe and paying major bucks to use the internet cafe to check this everyday. damn nymc.

Nothing so far, other than another member confirming a withdrawal as of yesterday (6/30). But, this is pretty significant since others had heard the class was full.


If you are really interested I could send you a single summary e-mail or text message at the end of the day to keep you updated. Just trying to help so let me know.

so I called nymc to make sure they got my LOU and asked if the class was full. The lady said that the class isn't full so keep your hope up

When I started orientation for medical school in 1993, the vice dean sat at a table with a binder. As well collected our new IDs at the table, the vice dean asked us where we went to undergrad. When told he would flip to that page and ask "do you know any of these people?" I pointed to a name I knew and he put a check mark next to it. That person was accepted into our class that day in August and joined us 2 days after we started Anatomy.
There is hope. For most people though a wait list is a delayed rejection.
If you don't make it, apply for next year as early as possible and interview early. Most people who interview late end up interviewing for wait list spots which is a lot different than interviewing for real spots.

thanks mbe36, really appreciate the offer. ill just try to get by on internet cafes here. if i hear anything hear ill go to the nearest pub and get completely hammered. so no news anybody?

not sure how much this helps, but i just got accepted to my first choice so i'm withdrawing from the NYMC waitlist. i hope it plays some role and one of you is made a very happy NYMC med student! 🙂

good luck everyone! is the consensus that there was 0 movement last week (as far as we can tell from SDN at least)?
 
yeah, that sounds about right. I called and they said the class is currently full so unless we hear about more people withdrawing, I don't know if many spots will open up? any opinions?
 
When I called them last week they said that the class isn't full... also the facebook group has only 70+ people in it and some of them are current students/ MS students so i don't know if its a good indicator or not, but I doubt that the class is full.... anyway we'll have to wait and see if there won't be any acceptances this week maybe the class is full

let's hope so!! Does anyone know approx. how many people they take off the waitlist each year? and how many of those were pulled in July? just wondering 🙂

also, I know that other schools are still pulling from their waitlists (GW) and some schools haven't even gotten to their waitlist yet (Drexel)...soooooooo maybe there's something out there. good luck everyone!
 
during my interview one of the admissions guys (the one whose voice is on the call menu when you call in) said that every year just about half of the class ends up coming off of the waitlist.

Weird....I called this morning and the woman indicated the class was not full.
 
i think youre over analyzing this all. From a common sense standpoint, im sure the class is full.. what motivation would NYMC possibly have to not have offered all their available spaces in the middle of july? I sure cant think of anything, what would they be waiting for when they got all these people on the waitlist.
 
You're probably right Pokerdoc. and plus, I can no longer access my status page on the NYMC website. therefore I think I am going to have to move on...

can other people not access their status pages as well?

Just tried and I can't either... Though in all likelihood this doesn't mean anything regarding our ultimate standing with NYMC--it is probably just that they are preparing for the new cycle--it is probably just best to expect the worst at this point and get on with your life. I do believe there is still hope out there for some of us...so keep those fingers crossed. That's what I'm trying to do while still moving forward!

I wouldn't give up just yet, although moving forward is a good idea (i.e resubmit your application). Friend of mine that goes there told me that last year they accepted someone at the first day of classes. I am not saying that they will give many more acceptances, but i am sure its not the end. Tom' is Wed and they seem to give acceptances on wed so lets hope for good news

I called about the problems we had accessing the status page. We will no longer be able to access the page because they are gearing up for the next app. cycle. I was, however, told that the class is not full and they accept up until August.

I just wish we were given greater specificity.

well i submited my amcas and just got a 2nd from nymc ... now i don't know whether i should submit it or not... did anyone get their 2nd today?

When did you submit your AMCAS?
 
begining of june...
i had everyhting ready after i got the WL.... so i decided not to wait any longer... i think ill just call them and ask them about the 2nd, but i was wondering whether i am the only one who got it

Thanks for the quick response. 👍 Please let us know what they say regarding the secondary.
 
ok so i just spoke to the same lady i talked to dozen of times before 🙂 and today she was very nice
she told me I should wait before submiting the secondary as I didn't recieve any notification from them. She said that the WL is still moving and if i won't get in from the WL I will recieve a notice in snail mail so i guess i can wait 2-3 more weeks before submiting it.
Last year i submited really late sometimes in november and still got an interview...
i hope that info would help you out... at least its nice of them that they send a snail mail notification and that she was willing to tell me that 🙂
 
i got the nymc secondary as well

i dont even know why they use the status page in the first page as i heard that those who got accepted, waitlisted, or rejected never saw a change in their status on that page
