About two weeks after I got my acceptance, my status changed to "Decision mailed on xx/xx/xxxx", or something to that effect. But nothing specific about the decision, and it happened way after I found out via email/snail mail letter.

Were you accepted off of the waitlist? If so, when?

Finally some good news... 🙂
I don't have much work so all i am doing is checking SDN and my email hoping for something good to happen
 
So this is kind of a stupid question, but what number are you guys calling to get waitlist updates? When I call the number they have listed on the NYMC website under the office of admissions, I just get touch tone options and none of them are for either waitlist or this past application cycle.
 
I think you have to press 1 and then 0 to speak with admission...
any news? did someone call them this week?
 
I just withdrew from NYMC. I really hope one of you guys gets the spot! Don't lose hope!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

hi mbe 36 i hope so🙂... anyway here is another update. I called them today and the lady said that the class ISN'T full and that there's a WL movement... I just dont get it, its 3 weeks before classes start you'd think that they'd fill all the class by now...

Yeah, at first I was unsure of the validity of the "there is still WL movement" statement. But, with these recent withdrawals, there must be spots.

If you'd like, I will volunteer as the caller for Mondays and post an update. It would be nice to have fellow SDN'ers for each day; just to keep us organized and updated.

That would be good if someone can keep on calling them so we can be updated, but we don't have much time left... I call them every wed/thu but realisticly we have two weeks left before orientation starts....
 
Update Monday 7/21:

I spoke with the male staff member this morning. He gave me a different answer than what we have been hearing. Apparently, the class is full and has been for a couple of weeks. He said this is the reason why there had not been any WL movement in the past couple weeks.
 
Ugh well that blows...let's just keep hoping for the best, I guess. Good luck everyone, still.
 
i don't understand how it's full when in the past couple weeks several people have posted that they've withdrawn. doesn't somebody have to take their places?

It could be because of over-acceptance. So even if a couple of people withdraw, they are still less inclined to get someone off the waitlist as the class is still full. This is just a theory as I have no proof.😀
 
ahhh i don't get it.... i spoke with different secretaries and each one told me that the class isn't full (or maybe it was the same one). Anyway I don't understand what the point of giving false info....
 
well i just called them to ask whether they received something i sent them. I talked to the guy who said that the class is full... and was full for the past few weeks...

actually that may be true, they send out more acceptances than they have spots. If I remember correctly, one of the admissions office people told me during my interview that they interview 1300 and accept 600 or so, and usually it's a self selecting process from there, they said they usually always end up with the same number every year. They said something a long the lines of we do it this way because it matches trends in the years previous.
 
yeah i already completed my 2nd just now... i just don't understand why were they updating us with false info for the past few weeks?
i mean if i knew it i would have completed my 2nd already... ooh well i completed it 10 days after i received it so its not that bad

How long did it take you to receive the NYMC 2nd after you had submitted AMCAS?
 
well i was verified in the beginning of june so i guess i received their 2nd with the first batch... which was july 11th and submitted it today.
I applied late last cycle and i think it really heart my chances....
so apply as early as possible...
just the thought of going through all this process again makes me sick!
 
I called yesterday and the lady I spoke to said that the class wasn't full and that the waitlist was still moving, she even told me not to lose hope.

I called again today and the person I talked to said that the class was full and unless someone withdraws, there won't be any further movement. I asked if they would go to the waitlist if someone dropped or if they already have a pool of accepted applicants, etc. and she put me on hold and went to go talk to someone that knew. She came back and said that if someone dropped, they will go to the waitlist.


So that's my two cents worth I guess. If someone wants to call and confirm that would be nice. And if someone wants to withdraw, that would be even nicer.

ooh yeah and the guy said that we have a week left or so and afterward we should receive rejection in the mail...
so yeah if some1 wants to withdrew they should do it NOW! 🙂

I just called them (7-22, 11:15am) and the admin lady told me that the class is currently full.
 
does anyone know about the chances of getting another interview since we got one last year? i know it isn't automatic but chances should be good right?
 
Hey guys! I just wanted to clarify something. Is this thread and everyone talking about getting acceptances for people who applied last summer and are expecting to enter into medical school this fall? Just wondering, because I'm applying to enter medical school next fall and all this talk of getting acceptances is freaking me out lol Thanks!
 
I am actually worried about our chances getting worse. My app has many areas of significant improvement since my last AMCAS submission. However, I have thoroughly updated NYMC with each improvement or addition up to this point. This includes the time between being complete to interview to WL to what seems to be a rejection.

I am worried because my current AMCAS shows these improvements. But, considering how far into this cycle I have updated NYMC, I feel like the school will be seeing all of the things that were taken into consideration for this past cycle.

It is not like I was rejected by NYMC last October and have almost a whole year of things they have not seen. Heck, the information NYMC has on me is more up to date than my current AMCAS! (this is because I sent them an update letter last week which detailed information which is not even on my AMCAS for this coming cycle)

What do you think?

This thread discusses acceptance for this Fall's class; as in 2 weeks from now (2008).

hi mbe36 i think we are all at the same boat like you 🙂
I also updated nymc with info that isn't on the amcas.... i think that they'll look at the application as a whole and I doubt they'll compare it to previous years application, but again what do i know🙂 all i have been told for the past 3 weeks is that the class isn't full and now we're being told it was full for the past few weeks... i think our chances this year are worse because they're opening this new SMP program which will already give a few extra seats to some applicants and less interviews...

that's a good point on that smp, now i really wish i would've done it. anyway, there's plenty of other schools out there right? although i would love to attend nymc.
 
Wait...what is this SMP program?
 
Its a special masters program for people who have low gpa.... basicly it costs alot of $$ but it can help you get into med school if GPA is your problem(like below 3.3 or something) . The drawback of this is that many of the times you have to take 2 years off...
 
Adding to that, many schools have their own SMP, for it is quite the money-maker, where they groom a small set of students who are trying to get in with a low GPA/mid-high MCAT score. Another drawback is that it is a final play, meaning if you mess up, you are dead in the water.

hey guys,
I got a very last minute acceptance off the waitlist from another school, so I'll be withdrawing from nymc. hope one of u gets my spot! 🙂

well thats interesting... there are 5 of us (i think) lets see who'll get it
 
5 of us plus the probably 100 others who don't post on sdn
