NYS compounding in 3 days!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Today was my first day of studying for more than a few moments. It's been tough to set aside time as I've been on rotation 40+ hrs and also working around 20-25 hrs/week too.

Obviously reviewing lab notes for the compounding and calculations. I looked at ISMP for look alike sound alike. Not really sure how to study for errors and omissions or the patient profiles. Any tips?

I was just reading over the official letter they sent, and started wondering about the products we have to prepare (beside the IV). It states it will be a suspension, capsule, ointment, or other. Has it ever been an "other" such as emulsion, gel, suppository, syrup, etc, or has it always one of those 3?

I'm flipping through my lab materials, and wondering if I can safely skip over reviewing the other products and simply focus on the 3 they listed.

Its always Suspension or capsules + ointment + IV...never anything else.

what did everybody think about today's exam?

The two profiles could not have been easier. Some of the error/omissions were a little tricky, had some debates with classmates afterward. SA/LAD was challenging for sure, probably got 5 or 6 out of the 10. Always knew 1 of the 2, which sucks with the lack of partial credit. I'm not sure if the "word bank" helped me or hurt me, as it seemed like there were a few possibilities for some of the drugs.

good to hear,

what did we have to write for the second profile scenario?

And was that dentist in scope of pratice?

How many "dispense as written" did u get?

I thought the dentist was fine. We had an indication that made sense for him to treat, and while it's an off label use that doesn't mean it is not a valid use. I said that one was okay.

I only had one other that I said was OK, but I'm not very confident on that one.

do you think there is partial credit on the profile.?
Probably, they're 5 points each, and there are definitely 2 questions within each. I can see doing either 1-2 points for "what's wrong" and the rest of the points (3 or 4) going toward "what will you do about it."

it said 3 points for pointing out the mistake and 2 points for your recommendation. i thought it was going to be all-or-nothing-5-points each per profile but the way they formatted it seemed like it won't be. the only lasa i got wrong was that i put oramorph as acute pain. oops

half of the errors and omissions was super easy and the other half was a toss-up, really. good luck on day 2.
