Good article. I gave up after my first year of college. I had no idea and had no advisers. It also plainly states the risks and hard work required:
There are no surveys on admit rates for students coming from post-bac programs, but consider: At N.Y.U., of 698 post-bacs who applied for the class entering in 2011, 24 were accepted a 3.4 percent admit rate. That compares with a 5.6 percent admit rate for those not from post-bac programs.

I'm a tad surprised that they mentioned the pricey post-bac programs, but not the more affordable ones. Harvard Extension, CUNY/SUNY, UMass.... I'm sure there are others, but I'm only familiar with the NYC and Boston ones.
I went to Harvard Extension. Great program, affordable and prepared me well for the MCATs. I ended up going on 9 interviews and was accepted at 7 (waitlisted at the other 2). I honestly have to thank the post-bac programs for getting me in.
