NYU Acceptances?

I remember when I interviewed they said that all acceptances should be out by the end of January. I was wondering if anybody had any more concrete dates? Will it be snail mail, email, both?

Admissions offlce stated yesterday that acceptances would be sent out in mid to late January and wait list and rejections in mid February.

That's how the woman made it sound when I called admissions...that they'd be spread out through the end of january.

I am def. interested. whoever gets an acceptance please post when you received it and where the mail was received (as in the city or state b/c mail within NYC goes faster than to VA which goes faster than to CA, etc). Good luck everyone . . .

i interviewed very late as well. it makes me think that i may not be hearing this week. 👎

at one of my interviews, there was a girl who went to nyu undergrad and had a friend in the med admissions office. i asked why nyu only interviews till dec 21st and how is that going. she said that her friend told her this was the first year they're doing amcas applications, got totally overwhelmed with the amount of stuff they had to process, and literally "threw out" like 2000 applications, barely looking at them! 😱

anyways. she said the guy admitted they don't know what they're doing and wouldn't be surprised if they find out later on that they don't have enough ppl to fill their class and start interviewing ppl again.

i don't know how authentic this account is, but thought at the time how disorganized and unprofessional of the nyu admissions office this was. my app is probably one of the ones that got thrown out!

When I was there the interviewer and tour guides made it seem as though they let everyone know at the same time. It also seemed this way when I called, however, this may be just wishful thinking.

called today and got exact same response. Gives me hope since i interviewed on the last day. We'll see.

This is inaccurate. I am an M1 at NYU, and my calss was the first to use AMCAS. Last year they did get a lot of apps, and the process took them much longer than they initially expected. I believe they were still interviewing into March, with a lot of late acceptances going out. This year, they got all of the interviews done prior to their break for Christmas, and all acceptances are ging out starting this week, but its not going to be dragged out over a long period. I think they want to have them all mailed by the end of the month.

However, they did see even more applications this year, and so they did institute an MCAT cut off. I heard it was around 32-33, but I cannot be completely sure as to what the exact number was. So bottom line, no ones apps just got thrown out without being looked at.

i interviewed late too. So the cut off was defintely not a 32 even from the very start cos i was thinking that they interviewed 32 and above and then decided to take less numbers.

I don't know about any MCAT cutoff but your acceptances should be coming soon. They already informed us of a second look weekend on march 4th for accepted applicants.

makes sense since they just sent out the letters yesterday, especially for those of us that are non-newyorkers.

Well, I had an interview the beginning of December with a 29 mcat. I dont think there was an mcat cutoff. I do however, doubt that I will be getting a letter of acceptance. Maybe I will make it onto a waitlist...and then get accepted 🙂

I wouldn't count on this staying the same. As i mentioned, last year was the first year with AMCAS, and I think the fact that acceptances went out late, as well as not having experience with the system, resulted in a lot more people being accepted (including off the waitlist) than they would have liked. The fact that they have streamlined the process a bit more this year, and have gotten acceptances out early, is probably just a few ways to cut down the acceptance rate. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at somewhere below 1/3.

Don't worried so much... I know it's easy to say but some of you may get waitlisted and have to wait til July to get in. The good news, though, is that NYU takes a lot of people from the waiting list.
I know I saw this somewhere about the mean Step 1 score... the average score is about 230... the highest being in 2004 with 231.

How can you say that? That is just complete speculation. So in one year the acceptance rate decreases by 40%??
