I just found out today (not sure if this is a good or bad thing) that NYUCD and NSU-CDM are in a partnership in which they share faculty, students, research and some other stuff.

Its in the latest edition of Nexus and I will post the entire article and statements from the Dean if anyone cares.

I know that Dr. Lippman (sp?) at Nova is a NYU grad and he talked a lot about NYU at my interview... so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it 😕

And I wonder how the heck does this benefit NYU? Not knocking Nova, but it seems like we have a lot more resources for Nova to use than for us to use from them. Oh well

Share students, what do you mean??? DOes this mean if NOVA thinks your not a good student that NYU will possibly think the same for interview purposes? B/c if so that would be dumb

Sorry John:

Our schools do not share faculty members. We, Nova Dental, may have some NYU alumni, but no seasonal adjunct faculty that goes between NYU and Nova Dental.

When you have more resource and updates, please do share. In the mean time, I'll see what I can find out from my end.

I will post the article tomorrow. I was also stunned when I read it.

and yes, find out please because I am super curiuos now.

Oh yeah, and this is not a rumor but straight from Dean Alfano. I will post his remarks

Here you go Andy. This is in the latest Nexus which is not currently available online yet so I just typed the article out for you.

Page 37 of Nexus

NYUCD and Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL, have entered into a cooperative agreement that will allow the two institutions to collaborate in a number of areas, including the exchange of faculty, students, information, clinical training, research, and continuing education. ?This agreement,? said Dean Alfano, ?creates a framework within which students and faculty members with diverse interests and expertise at our two campuses can interact. We look forward to a vibrant partnership with Nova Southeastern and to expand opportunities and resources to help shape positive change in health care.?

Does this mean A student goes to NYU, they can go study at the Nova campus possibly, and if so how long would it take to do so??? Cause if s, that would be really nice

No, I doubt that a NYU student can study at Nova if they wish to! This sounds more like if a student wish to rotate for something at the other school, they may or something, there may be an opportunity. There will be no NYU dental student getting a dental degree at Nova or anything and vice versa.

Although something is set up between Nova and NYU, it probably won't happen for another 5-10 years. You know how things are, they plan it now, but it won't happen until much later.

I can see faculty exchange to teach, but I see no reason for students to do an exchange to learn. Interesting concept, but it won't fly with students at Nova. In addition, student body have not heard anything about this implementation. I'm the Student Government Association VP and I attend all the meetings. If I haven't heard it yet, I can guarantee that it's nothing will happen any time soon.

BTW, what is the "Nexus"? Is that the NYUCD Newsletter?

Nexus is a bi-annual publication here with what the school is doing, planning to do and what else is going on in the world of dentistry. The specific one I am referencing here is Vol. 6 no.2

If you wana see whats its all about click the link below but the new one isn't up electronically yet

This sounds like an idea that will not check-out to both schools, as far as sharing students, professors or what not. Especially, for 2 schools from 2 different states. However, it sounds to me, that this is more of a research based relationship that both schools want to be involved in the future... which is normal.

Dr. Lippman from Nova is very proud being from NYU, and he talks about it during his interviews, but nothing to suggest he is part of some sort of connection between NYU and NSU.
