sup like many here i also got accepted into NYU and iam a resident of NYC. now everyone says its so damn expensive but if you already live in NYC and can stay at home, you wont need a car cause we have the MTA system and if you actually plan to live in an apartment by yourself Manhattan and the bronx isn't expensive if u plan to live in the not so rich area's, *cough Harlem, Washington Heights and the bronx. It will still be around 46,000 a year if you stay at home so i dont know whats the big fuss about NYU and being the most expensive school in the list.

Yup! I'm thinking Hoboken or Brooklyn. I'm not living in a cat box sized apartment again!

can't beat the USC's famous '+90,000 per year'

I am thinking the same but what about Hoboken vs Brooklyn? Someone is telling me that it is easier to take public transportation from Brooklyn to NYU area than it is from Hoboken. I don't know much about it but I would like to hear some pros and cons.

Well you get more housing for your dollar in both places. NYU is on the east side so Brooklyn is closer to the east side. Plus you'll only need a metrocard to take the subway to brooklyn- Hoboken will require a path train pass in addition to the metrocard. If you're going to have a car, then Hoboken might be easier to keep a car in. IN Brookyln you have to park on the street and race home once a week to move your car for alternate side of the street parking, plus car insurance is fantastically high in brooklyn. Brooklyn Con is that there aren't too many train stops so might have to walk a ways in order to get to a subway every morning- that starts to suck in the winter.

Thanks for the advice. I may be PM'in you with some housing questions as my plans progress.

wow!

I commute to Jacksonville from Gainesville 3-4 days a week... that's 2 hours one way by car! no trains down here!

I am so looking forward to NYC. Wish me luck at my columbia interview Ams (tomorrow!).

guys there is plenty of housing in harlem and upper manhattan and the bronx is only 40min away. the entire trip costs 4 bucks iam a new yorker and only if your rich you will have common sense not to live on the east side. I still dont see the point of a new yorker getting into buffalo vs NYU and chosing buffalo when you add all the extra expenses/housing/transportation you will almost be paying the same and why would anyone want to live in a dead area with 4 ft of snow everyday if someone can explain that iam happy to listen.

I grew up in Buffalo and that's EXACTLY why I live in LA now! That said I would go to Buffalo b/c I could get state tuition and live at home for free. Bu tthat's the ONLY reason

Sure thing! I haven't lived there in 2 years (in LA now), but I'm happy to help as much as I can.
