I think I'm really starting to understand why people recommend to apply to a lot of schools. It really does seem like it can be random.
I talked to a guy who was on the adcom for his med school. He said sometimes it can even depend on how the person that is looking at your application feels that day.
Very true, it really depends on the school. I applied to 20 schools (yeah tons of money, but I wanted to get in asap) and interviewed at 9. The others simply rejected me, it is hard to know who will get your file, how they are feeling, what they like about you etc. Hope you get my drift, its not as bad as gambling but its getting harder every year.
I definitely recommend applying to a ton of schools too. Like punchdrink, I applied to about 20 schools with a 22 DAT/3.6s and c GPA, and landed about 9 interviews. Most of the schools I got rejected pre-interview were BU, NYU, Temple. Granted, I applied in November 🙁 so that probably played a huge factor. My state school was my last interview, so I had to attend all my interviews; however, everything worked out perfectly fine.
