I didn't get an invite to interview, and they already stopped interviewing.

I called today, the lady said they don't really accept appeals. She said I didn't get an interview only because I was complete later than others (I was complete right before the deadline).

Is it worth an appeal? Is anyone else doing it?
They claim to be non-rolling, but stop reading apps even BEFORE the deadline?!?! That's not really fair to set the deadline at that date then if they don't even bother to read our apps.

You can certainly appeal, but I don't know if it's worth it. Although it's not fair that late applications receive less consideration than early applications, you knew that your chances were going to be severely decreased by submitting at the last minute. NYU may argue that it did look at your application but simply ran out of interview slots. Appeal for the principle of it if you want, but I doubt that NYU will do anything differently. Sorry, I know that sucks . . . I may be wrong though; if anyone has successfully appealed a no-invite decision after the interview season at NYU, let us know.

I think that's really unprofessional in NYU's part IMO... unless they warned applicants in their website about the possibility of interview slots running out, they should never take applicant's money like that then flush his/her application down the drain. Every applicant deserves a fair chance and heck, NYU even claimed to be non-rolling.

I hear ya, I applied at the last minute too, and I REALLY love NYU and would've LOVED to go there...now I don't get to. I really didn't find out about their interview deadline until I read it on SDN...I doubt appealing will do any good, basically it's our own fault for applying so late...for not reading the fine print.

GOOD LUCK with the rest of the schools!!!

it takes like 2 seconds to apply to nyu. no essay, no nothing. why wait so long.

Ah it was that "is there anything you would like us to know" essay that took me forever...because there really WAS something I'd like them to know but I didn't know the best way to put it...now I wish I had just put down NOTHING.

Yeah. NYU asked me for another LOR this fall from a lecture science professor instead of a lab science prof (who I had taken two labs from and TAed for three semesters) and told me they wouldn't review my application until that was in. I'm bummed.

How do you know that NYU has stopped interviewing? I took the August MCAT but had everything submitted before then and I still haven't heard anything from them. I guess I'll be waiting for a rejection letter in the mail now that they've stopped interviewing. This stinks!

They do say on their website in the admissions section that the interview season ends in December. It does not stand out though, so most people may overlook it.

I looked today and could not find it. It's hidden so they can rob us of our $100. Who would still apply November 15th-ish when interviews are about to be over? Scandalous..

the Lady is "Lisa"

They ain't so nice there. I called to ask why they make the deadline Nov. 15th if there isn't a fair chance to others who apply even during late october til the deadline. She said, well, we are VERY competitive, and we don't have that many spots at the end.

Then I said, aren't you "non-rolling". she said, YES, but..we are VERY competitive. Then I told her, I could've had a chance then, since I was done, but they're system couldn't accept my online submission for over two weeks. She said "Yes, you most likely would have gotten an interview. But the system wasn't working." WHAT????

They stopped interviewing Dec. 21st she said. She even said they already made decisions, and no more interviews will be granted. Not even for appeals.

So, bottom line, i'm not appealing. Waste of time. they'll probably throw out my envelope anyway.

Personally, I wish more schools were as economical as NYU.
No essays for secondary.
Interview invite within 2 weeks of application.
Only 1 interview total.
Interview day ended by noon.
Decisions made in Jan.

Okay, let me preface this by saying I'm speaking out of my ass really but heres my thoughts on this....

-For whatever reason you applied at the last minute, IF NYU claims to be non-rolling, and if the reason the woman on the phone gave you for your rejection is correct and is the only reason you were not considered for interview, then that is wholly wrong.

-My real thought is that it is not the only reason you weren't considered. Last year, I applied at the very last minute as well and I was still interviewed and this is when NYU was actually rolling.

-The whole point of non-rolling is that they take all the applications for each interview period and consider them all, regardless of submission time, and then decide from that entire pool who to interview.

This is how I probably got into Penn despite submitting AMCAs on Oct 15th and secondary on the deadline day (submission was online so literally on the day).

Something doesn't make sense.
