Ok...heres my question. NYU is a hard as hell school to get into for undergraduate studies so why is it "relatively"...keyword...easy to get into for dental school? Also, is it private or public? Thanks.

NYU is a private school.

I don't think it was that difficult a school to get into for undergrad (well, compared to the other school in NYC I applied to for college-- Columbia).. NYU does have a combined 7-year BA-DDS program though; my sister went through that and she loved it.

I guess one of the biggest reasons why NYUCD has a reputation for being "easy" to get into is because 1) it is a private school so there is no state preference, and 2) it admits the BIGGEST class of any dental school out there-- over 200.

Nonetheless you can get a good dental education there as long as you are willing to put out the effort.

Now those attending NYU undergrad will tell you that it is very demanding to major in sciences at NYU. And it's also very expensive. I agree Columbia is a bit more selective but it's and Ivy League school with different selection criteria.
as UBTom mentioned the NYU dental class is rather large and that's why I think it is a little less competative. I don't have that much info on the Dental school, but I know that I see them sometimes, in large white van that has dental students offering services. NYU Undergrad should start to become more competitive since President Sexton is adament in making it a top 10 school.

I didn't think it was all that tough to get into but NYU will always be in Columbia's shadow...that's ok we're cooler people 😉 .

The science major isn't that bad, at least the Chem dept seems to be the easiest. Bio is tougher but still if I worked as hard as I do now A's wouldn't be as far fetched. Physics was tough.
