For current NYU students, what did/do you think of the dorms. I will be a first year in August coming from california, i feel its the easier, as opposed to searching for an apt. Let me know the positives and negatives.....thanks

I am interested to know too.

thanks

The dorms are HORRIBLE and are a total rip off!! But, the good news is you dont have to worry about all of the hassles that are involved in finding a place long distance. If I were you, I would try to find a place with another dental student, and one close to school.

Finding an apartment in NYC to someone new to the city can be daunting. The best way to do it would be to find your own apartment. I would highly recommend Waterside, which is an apartment complex right near school. It seems like over 1/2 of the college, including some professors live there. It is a respected HUGE place right on the east river looking at Brooklyn. The rent is reasonable. I would try to find a place there and find a roommate from one of your fellowing incoming students.

Best advice: Waterside. You will pay way too much money for a really crappy dorm. Dont worry, you wouldnt be alone though. Many of the first year dental students live in dorms with Med students and other post-grads. It is a "safe" alternative to looking for your own place. BUT, if you do want another place, go with Waterside. Have all of the confidence in the world in signing a lease there without even seeing the apartment.

Hope this helps!

what are policies regarding friends visiting for a few days for instance, or bringing friends over for the evening or what not. is it just like a typical college dorm, or more freedom?

hello.

i am attending nyu in the fall. i would prefer to live with and split an apartment with one or two other girls. I would like to live in the city as well, and really wouldn't want to spend over $800/month.

is anyone interested in apt hunting with me??

There are plenty of apts. meeting your criteria. Look in the neighborhood's of Fantasyland and Dreamworld.

i don't see whats so unrealistic about her price if she splits up an apartment with like 4 people or something. seems like you're the one who needs to get outta fantasyland buddy. :scared:

$800/month.
x3 people
-----------
2400/month

Seems a bit too low, but you might be able to get a 2 bedroom for that. Not unrealistic, but probably hard to find. 3K/month is probably closer to reality if you want to be nearer to campus.

I've read some discussion awhile back about NYU apartment searching. Too lazy to search at the moment, but the numbers aren't too far off from what was being discussed.

it's possible. There are people in my class to pay ~700/mo in not too far neighborhoods.

Look around the undergrad area, or areas walkable to NYU shuttles.

hey

your website is pretty humorous. one of your first postings "Orientation Starts at UC Manhattan NYU" was great. that is pretty much what i am anticipating for this fall.
