I was just wondering whether the NYU GPA cut off is enforced or not. I mean, how can the average GPA be 3.23 for last year's entering class unless they admitted people below 3.1? I mean, I understand it IS possible, but it seems highly unlikely. Unless of course, they only recently stated this GPA cut off.

I don't know. My GPA is very weak and was hoping to send in my Fall 2007-2008 grades but I realize that will put my app on hold until January, though I'm wondering if it will be worth it. I've taken a few DAT practice exams and scored an average of 24s across the board (only because I studied for the MCAT earlier this year) so I'm hoping my DAT in October will go well. I just wasn't sure if it was worth applying to NYU if I have a GPA below the cut off (yeah, it's really bad I know -- I'm quite ashamed)...

I don't know about the NYU cutoff but if you're taking the DAT in October, it may not be worth applying at all this year, especially if your GPA is on the low side. Those of us who had our application and DAT done in May/June are just now starting to get interview invites... it takes forever! If you take the DAT in October and submit your transcript in January, you can expect to hear from schools by April or May. By that time most schools will probably be 80-90% full.

It wouldn't hurt to take the DAT though. If it goes well you're ahead of the game for next year; if it doesn't you have plenty of time to retake it. Spend this coming year taking upper level science classes and do REALLY WELL in them to boost your GPA. Lots of schools favor an upward trend in grades.

Just my opinion🙂

Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university, including all prerequisite courses, DAT, and GPA of 3.1 or higher or a GPA of 3.5 at an accredited college or university from the U.S. or Canada, with 90 credits including all prerequisite courses.

Taken verbatim from NYU's website. So ... I had a question. Is it 3.1 or 3.5 ? 3.5 for someone with under 90 credits taken. Also, the "requirement" is not a static cutoff - it's just an average meant to give an idea of what's competitive.

it's 3.1 if you have a bachelors, it's 3.5 if you don't.

Does anyone know if they really do enforce the 3.1 GPA cut off? Has anyone got in without a 3.1?

Ok nevermind. I just found out that it's not a static cut off at 3.1, they still look at your entire application and consider you. Woo!

AADSAS has an academic update opportunity after Fall term. Honestly, one term isn't going to make or break your GPA. You'll be much better off applying now with your lower GPA and then updating in the Fall than you'd be waiting until January solely to get that slight GPA boost.

I'd hurry if you are going to apply now, though -- AADSAS is slow and you definitely want the ad comms to have your application in their hands well before Dec 1.

I don't think NYU is an "easy" school to get into... the GPA average might be low, but I think they look at experience more...

This thread is old and outdated. The avg total GPA accepted for NYU is now 3.5 and avg sciGPA is 3.4. NYU highly recommends at least a 3.2 sci and overall GPA, there might be a few exceptions here and there but 3.2 seems to be the cut off point.

You can have a lower GPA, but you need something to make up for it. NYU does look at you as an overall candidate.

I have a 3.6 oGPA and a 3.45 for sGPA... even I'm getting a little worried right now, currently taking physics sequence.

You haven't heard anything from them? Remember, NYU has the largest class size and they send out acceptances even in May

Well, I got an interview in late-October (exactly a month ago today), I think it went alright, nothing amazing, I loved it, not sure if they loved me lol... I just keep getting intimidated before December 1st. :nailbiting:

I love the school and everything it has to offer. I think that if we get an interview, and we don't say or do anything stupid, we should be okay. Just think happy thoughts! In all honesty, I doubt that I will get any sleep the night before and spend most of the day checking my email.

Haha, you're right. Same here, although considering I only have one class on Mondays, I'm pondering if I should just stay home and call it an all-nighter. Would suck to not receive happy news though! But yeah, hope we become classmates soon! 🙂
