NYU Hotel/Hostel

I've been looking at the hotel rates of the places on the list they give us in our interview confirmation letter and all of the prices are $300+. Is there a cheaper place to stay near NYU?

International hostel is way cheaper, and it's safe, but the restroom is not that clean....but anyway, it's so expensive to live in NYC!

i stayed at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, NJ... its a 20 min train ride to NYC and it cost about $108.
