Hey guys,

I have just received an email from NYU stating that I'm invited for an interview.

However, the email does not give me any information on where I could stay while in "expensive" NYC.

And let me know how the interview goes, for those of you who have already interviewed there.

there are some places close by..like a Super 8..but its not cheap by any means. I called there a few days ago asking where interviewees normally stay and she said The Marcel...so i looked it up....410 bucks for the night!! there is no way i would stay there...either way its going to be a relatively expensive trip..probably the most expensive interview you'll ever have

Uh oh, I may have to cancel this interview invite.

There is no way I'm going to pay more than $80 a night at a cheap three-star motel. 🙁

well unless you want to stay at a hostel...they have those too...or you could try to stay close to the airports, or in like queens or even jersey...but that would be a hike to get to the school...its not cheap by any means...i'm having my aunts company foot the bill for me

You are going to pay $60,000 a year in tuition but not $80 to sleep before the interview? You have to think of all this as an investment.

No no buddy. I said I would rather pay $80 per night at a motel rather than the $300/night crazy rate that NYC hotelas AND motels charge per night.

I'd be darn happy if there are any motels near NYU that charge $80/night.

Hence, I may be turning down my interview invite to NYU.

Plus it's a long journey for me to fly from Washington State to NYC.

Heck no am I going to stay in Jersey or Queens. That's too far from NYU's dental school, and the traffic in NYC is TERRIBLE.

Plus the email invite letter stated to show up to the admissions office prior to 8AM. WOw!

Lame reasons to miss an interview. Sorry.

Try checking out the Holland Motor Lodge. Apparently it's located just outside the entrance of the Holland Tunnel that goes into NYC and it's walking distance to the NY/NJ Path Trains. It's only $73/night on Sun-Thurs and $84/night on Fri-Sat when I inquired about the rates.

Sorry, I don't have any feedback on it b/c I ended up cancelling my reservation and crashing at a friend's place instead. But it sounded pretty decent to me!

how often do they send invites? it's been forever since i've heard anything from nyu

Stay at Hotel Amsie. They provide a simple couch to sleep on, but it's free. Can't beat that!

I'll check Holland Motor Lodge out. Thanks for the advice.

Look at Hotel 17. It's near 1st and 17th, about a 10 minute walk to the school. A shared bath is about $130 and with how early you'll get up, you won't have to worry about the bathroom. It's a one person bathroom and is pretty nice anyway!

I felt that it was tough to beat that price, esp. for being so close to the school.

Good luck!

The only problem in NY is that its COLDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!

agree! Hotel 17 is a good location, it's about 120-130 (tax and everything included). I stayed there and it only took me 6-7 min to walk to 24th st for the dental school.

any other cheap and close suggestions?
