I have an interview at NYU this Thursday. I was wondering if anyone has been interviewed there and what kind of questions they might ask. Thanks for your time!

do u know how many people are being interviewed? and what the class size is this year...283...is this correct? ...Also from the number being interviewed how many people do they take? So what i am asking is that what are one's chances with an interview?

:scared:

I'm also curious, but how hard is it to live/go to school in NYC?

How did you (or anyone) pay for school and still afford to live? The rent is outrageous . . . .

Hey guys, I'm a D1 at NYU and taking a little break from studying for our organelles (ie. cell biology) exam on Thursday.

First of all our class is about 235 students (give or take). That is less than the 270 they had last year.

Secondly, New York is a great city but very $$$. There is always stuff going on here, which is good.

As for interviews, I believe they are held Mondays, Thrusdays and I believe fridays...for anyone on Thursday, you'll meet me since I volunteer to have lunch with students, so you can ask me ANYTHING.

Some interviewers are: a psychologist (heard mixed reviews about him) an old dentist who is very "new york" (he swore at me at my interview) and other staff who are generally ok.

when i was interviewing Ms Amy Knowles, dire of adm, told me that it varies every year. What do you say EHA?

Is it true that NYU gets rid of some of their students after the first and second year so they can free up space for clinicals?

do a search for that question..it's been asked many times. in a nutshell..only you can kick yourself out. if you work hard then nothing to worry about..

i would like to know what nyu's story is this year though as i applied there in october. whats the class size this year? anyone know what the cutoff/acceptable stats are for interviews??

This IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. What happens is this. People get accepted. The workload piles up real fast. They think its like undergrad (or whatever their reasons are), they dont study. The fail. Theres a minimum requirement. I think its: if you fail 3 classes, you can do the remedials in the summer. If you pass the remedials....youre still ok. If you fail 4 or more classes, you FAIL OUT....they dont say "ok anyone who has an average less than __ gets the BOOT" Its not like that.

Side Note: Dental school isnt an easy ride. I knew it was going to be a challenge, but never new how much. If youre not mentally prepared for it, its possible that you may be one of the few that fail out. However, on the same note. ITS POSSIBLE. Otherwise we wouldnt have dentists. We have people in our class who are married, have kids, etc etc. But theyre doing it. They have their priorities straight. You just have to see what you want out of dental school.
You just want to pass?
You want to be a great clinician?
You want to specialize? (Of course there are many more options)

But if you know why youre here, and know why youre paying big bucks for this education, you wont let it happen to you.

Its as easy as this: If you study, youll pass. SIMPLE

Also, NYU has just this year hired a learning specialist to aid people who feel they need help in acquiring "learning skills". This just goes to show that theyre not kicking students out, although people do FAIL.

The class size is 238 I beleive. Might vary now a little bit. I think someone dropped out the first week. This year class (2008) is much smaller than the class of 2007 (270-280). The professors, and I think, the AdCom is pleased with how the smaller class is working out. But Im not sure if theyre going to keep it this way.

Generally, if you have a 3.2 ~ 18 AA you should get an interview, not to say that people with lower scores dont get interviews. I know for a fact there are people in my class with lower grades than what I suggested.
