Has anyone interviewed with NYU yet for this year or in past years? I'm interested to know format and question types. I was told there was a writing portion as well. Any tips? Thanks!

Sorry, I have not interviewed with them. But if I do not get an acceptance this year, NYU will be on the list next year. So I would be interested in those same answers in about 10 - 12 months!

Hey alemarti,

I am interviewing at NYU in a couple weeks. All I know is that the interview process will last about 30 minutes with a committee. As for the essay, I am really concern about this actually. We will only have around 10 minutes to complete a short essay.

When did you guys hear from NYU? Do you know if they do more than one interview round? Thanks.

I heard from NYU in early November. When I talked to the admissions person she said that the December date is the first interview date and I also met another prospect who said his interview date was the day after mine

wow i just found out i forgot to pay my supplemental fee for NYU back in october. And my PTCAS application was verified on 10/28. Talk about a waste of 30 days! doh! ahhhh.

oh no! did you get it taken care of? thankfully you figured it out before the 1st!

yah i did it as soon as i found out. whew.

Okay I thought the supplemental fee was the $35 PTCAS fee for adding the designation and I thought that that was required for all schools on the PTCAS list but when I look at the supplemental list on PTCAS there are some schools that say "No" under the supplemental fee column, and all the schools I've applied to have "No" in that column and yet I had to pay PTCAS $35 for adding those designations so my question is what is the supplemental fee? I'm assuming that if I do come across a school that requires a "supplemental fee" that PTCAS would notify me as I'm adding the designation, i hope that is true. This is for future reference for schools that may require this "supplemental fee".

The $35 is not a supplemental fee. Supplemental fees are individual fees that the school you are applying to charges that is not covered by PTCAS. Usually you have to go to the schools website and fill out an additional application where is also the place that you pay the supplemental fee. Dont expect PTCAS to notify you when and how to pay it. Look up the school and they should have details about it. Best of luck 🙂

I just heard yesterday that I have an interview at NYU on January 6th! Does anyone know what kind of things the essay will be on?

I will be there jan 6th as well and was wondering the same thing

The essay is REALLY NO BIG DEAL! I interviewed at NYU on the 6th. Everyone was super friendly. The essay may be used just to see if you can think coherently on the spot. Enjoy the interview!!!

Are there going to be more interview invitations?

Are there going to be more interview invitations?
Yes. The first round of interviews happened in early December. The final round is in mid January (from what I heard from the current students at NYU)

My essay was on healthcare issues in the United States.
Have you heard anything from NYU yet? I know in previous years folks got letters a few weeks after they interviewed.

I have my interview on January 20th. So there is a couple more sessions after the December one.

Mherna11, when did you get your interview date? I applied before the deadline and still have not heard anything.

Yes I plan on attending. It is expensive but it's really not much more than other NY private schools. NYU does have scholarships available. I was notified last week about the aid i'll be receiving if I go there.

NY is expensive but if you live outside of manhattan, have roommates, and take public transportation it's not that bad. Food can be relatively cheap so cost is really dependent on lifestyle.

Did anyone get an interview invite for 2012 application?

I have not interviewed with them.
I was planning to add them to my list to apply this round but I got accepted to 3 schools last round.
I just finished my first quarter!! At AT Still in Arizona.
You still have time to add them to your app and get an interview! I am a student ambassador for AT Still and I think it is the best place for me to be!
The weather is superb 10 months out of the year! The teachers are great! There's lots of fun outdoor stuff to do when you are not studying.
It IS hard but well worth it!
Good luck to all!

I've been wondering the same thing. I was invited to an interview last cycle around this time. Has anyone heard back about interviews yet?

I was trying to call NYU this morning to ask about their minimum GRE scores but I couldn't get them. I read that they don't have minimum GRE scores and that they take everything on the application in to consideration but that was from some English major I googled not the DPT program. Plus on the PTCAS page there is no minimum GRE scores or average GRE scores. I am applying really late, the deadline is this Monday and I'm only applying now. I'm so last minute with everything but this month alone I have applied to over 10 designations, so it's been a busy month.

Hey the supplemental question is:

"Please explain your purpose in undertaking a Doctor of Physical Therapy program specifically at New York University."

This is like the PTCAS essay question. Do they want the same essay with I guess a little detail in to why we chose NYU specifically?

futurept89, when did you get notification of your interview?

Just got a phone call for an interview on Jan 4th! So excited!

You know I just caught this today:

For observation hours for NYU on PTCAS it reads:

PAID experience Not accepted

For my observation hours I used my work experience as a PTA and had the PT I worked with confirm it. Although I did do clinicals (which I guess you can say is volunteering at the rehab site) during my schooling as a PTA but that's not shown in my Observation page on PTCAS (plus that was back in 2005-2006), although I did speak about it in my essay.

I don't know why they don't accept paid experience.

I'll call the school tomorrow to see what I can do and find out if they've received my application from PTCAS seeing as I only sent it December 1st.

I actually didn't even look at that observation hours section for any of the schools I applied. I assumed all accepted paid experience. But now that I think about it there'd be no point to have a Paid Experience section if all schools accepted it. Mistake on my part.

I got a call for an interview!!! Jan. 18th. First school to offer me an interview for DPT. Finally! I'm busy studying for this final. Later.

I got the message of the interview through voice mail. The lady only said congratulations and that my interview was Jan. 18th and left a name and number to call her. From the time I got the message (which was only a few minutes after she called) to a few hours later, I called her several times but would always get her voice mail.

I wanted to get some more details on the interview, like the time. Is the interview time the same for all interview days? If not I have to get in conctact with her and find out what time the interview is.

What to wear? Would a suit and tie be too much? How about slacks and a solid color polo shirt?

I am really surprised that they called me for an interview being that they were the 2nd to last school I applied to. I only applied Dec. 1, I didn't even know that they received my application. Just yesterday I was on here talking about that in the other thread.

This is great new. Finally. More schools should be rolling in with interviews this week I think.

futurept89, how was the interview?? And how did you prepare for the interview? I'm getting really nervous about it!

no worries at all!! they were all super sweet and easy going. at first you sit in a room with alums and current students talking about the school and they give you the opportunity to ask questions. The interview itself was 2 staff members and 2 alumni just asking questions about why you want to to PT etc..
then a mini tour of the dept (its only one floor)
if you have any more questions just PM me🙂
good luck!!!

Thank you for the info futurept89 and congratulations. This is the first and only DPT school so far that has given me an interview. So it may be my only hope. I've been denied acceptance from 3 schools that I have applied to so far. Still waiting to hear back from about 16 other schools but I did apply to most of them kind of late (last month) so the wait is justified I guess.

The interview was very relaxed when i had mine. Same format as described above. My main decision for not picking this school was the expense plus the program being held on one floor. The students there spoke highly of the program and seemed happy. The most important question you need to be able to answer why specifically you want to go to NYU for your DPT.

I'm on google maps looking at the actual pictures/view of the school and I'm like "okay this school looks like an apartment building". The interview is at the address 380 Second Avenue, 4th Floor, NY, NY. So that's the same place where we'll be doing the program? Catch mentions the program being held on one floor, that doesn't bother me. But the school is right in the middle of traffic. Once you step out of 380 Second Avenue, you're on the street. I'm used to a campus with lawns, courts, different buildings and parking lots but this is a real city so I understand. Despite how much I knew about NYC for some reason it was kind of a shock to see the school like that.

Just found out I got into the NYU program! Super excited!!!

I interviewed on Jan. 4th and heard back yesterday! I didn't think I would hear back that quickly!

Same, I interviewed on Jan. 4th and heard back 4 days later that I was accepted, never thought it would be that quick, but i'm relieved !

I have my interview this Friday. I feel kind of weird now especially because of the revelation that I probably won't be able to afford to go to NYU. Like walking in to a store you know is too expensive for you. I'm going to do my best in the interview. If anything it will be a learning experience.

Just curious, for those of you who interviewed last week, has anyone heard back?
