Hi all,

I've been accepted to NYU for the class of 2011 (hooray!) and am trying to figure out how I'm going to divvy up the cost of living there. I definitely want to live near the school/my classmates for the first two years because I study better in groups and want to spend time getting to know my classmates. But for the 3rd and 4th year, how important is it to live in the city? I'm from NJ and may consider moving home for those last 2 years to save money, but the fastest way for me to get in and out of the city each day would be by car, 1 hour each way (without traffic). Would this work, or would it be better for me to find a way to stay in Manhattan? What do most 3rd and 4th year NYU students do as far as living arrangements go?

I think both parking and traffic will be a problem. You may wanna consider taking NJ transit and subway if thats convenient.

I've considered NJ transit + subway too, but so far it seems like what I would spend on bus/train fare won't be significantly less than what I would spend on gas/tolls/parking, and at least driving would allow me to be a bit more flexible with my time (no rushing out of the clinic to make a specific train or bus, missing it, and having to wait an hour or more for the next one to show up). I just need to know how much time D3s typically spend at the dental school, and if living in NJ is going to be too much of a hassle going back and forth.
