Hello, I just discovered these excellent forums as I looked for solace after receiving rejection letters from Scripps Bryn Mawr and Goucher. I knew these programs were very good, but didn't really appreciate just how competitive they are until landing here. Congratulations to all you that made it into those programs 🙂

As for the rest of us, I was wondering if anyone was currently enrolled or about to enroll in NYU's post bac. It's looking very likely I'll be attending this summer and I've only seen one substantive post on these forums regarding the program. I'd love to hear some more perspectives on the program's strengths, weaknesses and general useful information and quirks. I have pending apps at Mills and Columbia. Of those 3 I'm leaning towards NYU, but hearing more about the program would help me solidify my decision. Thanks!

And by summer 2007 I mean summer 2008

Brizzle can I ask you what program at NYU and at Columbia you are applying to? I am a predent and am reseaching post bacc and SMP's to apply to.

Hi tooth, nice handle for predent 😛 I applied to the postbacc premed programs at NYU and columbia. I'm fairly sure a predent would apply to the same programs. They are in the "little to no prereqs before applying" model. I've been waiting to hear from columbia for a while now, 2 months. Both are integrated with undergrads. NYU is 40 people/year and columbia is like 200/year as far as I can tell. I'll hopefully meet an NYU adviser soon and learn more.

Hi,
I randomly wandered across this post and decided to reply since I have currently finished the pre-med program at NYU. The post-bacs generally have the same classes with the undergrads. Most seem to like it well enough. I suggest not combining orgo with physics though (a million people will tell you this because people who take them together go crazy). But if you work hard enough you should be ok. I hope this is somewhat useful to you.
Bio- very large class (400 ppl) with 25 person labs. Rotating professors 3 tests a semester
Physics- 200 person class with 25 person recitation/lab (both in same timeslot but on different days) Multiple choice tests. 20 questions (or sometimes more for extra credit depending on who teaches it)
Orgo- 200-300 person class/ lab/ lab lecture (really long)/recitation- they are currently revamping it since the old teacher is retiring. Either way the quality of your TA makes alot of difference. Mine had lots of worksheets for us and that was helpful. Quiz every week in lab and recitation.
Gen Chem- 200-300 person class/lab/lab lecture/recitation the easier of the prereqs you'll look back and wish you could have gen chem again. QUiz every week in lab and recitation
--The chem classes usually have their finals on the last day of the finals period

Good luck
