Hello,

I am currently a junior in college, just deciding I am going to go for OT. I want to stay in my home state of New York, and my dream is to get into the NYU program.
I am a neuroscience major. My most recent GPA for my first semester of junior year was a 3.8, however in the past it has been between 3.1 and 3.4. I have received C's in 1 bio class and chem class. All pre reqs I have thus far are A's (4.0)
I currently volunteer at a local hospital, I'm a research assistant for a psych research program, and am on executive board for project sunshine so I get volunteer hours that way.

I am wondering what my chances are of getting into NYU's program, if I keep my GPA up and what I can do to increase my chances!

Also, if anyone has any advice about how to find an OT to shadow, I am having such a hard time.

Thanks!

I've been seeing people get accepted with 3.4+, so if you get it there you'll be great. Not guaranteed acceptance but you'll be a step closer. You having a 4.0 on your pre-reqs is also gonna help you a lot. My suggestion is to get as many shadowing hours as you can and bust your butt in school. The GREs might be something of interest for you.

Looks like you're in good shape academically. Like dobber said, get lots of shadowing hours with OTs in different settings. As for finding OTs to shadow, research clinics/hospitals/schools in your area and call & check up on them to see who is free.

Strong personal statement would help as well (NYU's prompt is "How has your work/volunteer/life experiences led to choose the profession of Occupational Therapy?")

Best of luck!

Speaking of NYU, has anyone heard anything back about this application cycle? I haven't heard a thing since I submitted my app over a month and a half ago.

I haven't heard anything since I submitted it on January 2nd, either! They did say that they wouldn't send out anything if your application was absolutely completely. Just a matter of time when they send out acceptances since NYU doesn't do interviews. I'm getting nervous!
