because the move date was creeping up so fast I decided to stay put for the rest of the summer. That and I more than $500/week and I just got a big raise and am due a nice bonus at the end of May (even though my company knows I'm leaving) - so I guess money and time would be the reasons. 🙂

That's not bad at all! By the end, you should aim to come out with plenty of research experience, and some of the latest gadgetry on the market.😎
And, maybe some fancy clothes for all the clubbing you'll be doing in NYC.👍

Wow! I guess my last second essay must have been pretty decent. They have a waiting list also. I wonder how many people applied.

For all that were accepted to the research program, do you know when you start getting the stipend? I am a green card holder and it seems like my disbursement might be delayed. Any info will help, thanks.

What type of research is it? Dental obviously, but what do you do there?

Anything from clinical trials to working with bacteria under microscopes etc. They have a research page on the NYU website.

Just to answer some of the questions. . . .

The e-mail that asked us to write an essay for the Research Program stating our reasons for applying had 40 people on it. I think 24 people were given slots for the research.

As for what type of research, it varies but seems to be either basic sciences research (i.e. studying things on a micro level to find a link to oral cancer), epidemiological research (i.e. demographic risk factors for oral cancer), or clinical / applied research (i.e. testing certain biomaterials). The NYU website has an extensive research section with various categories.

I believe you can send an e-mail to the director of the research program and enquire about getting on the waiting list but don't take my word for it.
