I recieved the 38,500 from stafford. I also applied for and got approved for 20,800 from citiassist.....

This amount will cover tution/fees and instruments and books...this is how much I want to borrow as my living expenses etc will come from elsewhere...so my question is..

is that all I need to borrow? I mean I only have to pay nyu for tutition/fees and instruments and books correct? the Rest is optional if you want to borrow that amount like room and board/living expenses, health insurance (I already got health insurance from a private group).

So i'm covered for what I need to be correct? I dont have to pay nyu for anything else do I?

About HI I contacted NYU Health dept and I was told that if I already have an insurance and continue with the same then I should apply to NYU Health dept(?) for a waiver. Otherwise your figure is correct and you need to pay NYUCD the quoted amount (sans HI).

yeah, ure right,
we do have to contact nyu health department and tell them we already have HI and want a waiver, you can also reduce the amount of coverage you want if you feel you dont need the entire amount coverage...

I need to contact them because my HI will run out in december and i'm wondering if I can get it from nyu at a later point, as their current rates seem to be quite reasonable.

hey k
r u sure u r gonna stick to the citiassist health prof.loan?i guess the grad plus loan would be a better and a smarter option..what do u think?

Hey,
yeah i decided to stick witht he citiassist loan, I've heard of more than one person being rejected for the grad plus loan even though they have great credit history...I know the citiassist loan is not fixed but, my parents just said to go with that one...so I did.

Are you back from india? are you going with the grad plus loan?

oki...
i'm still in india.....and i'm going with the grad plus..as i have got it approved already...... 😉

Yeah Khurram and Prady, after I corrected that one item on my credit report, the approval went through ... actually the same day !
It is pre-approved now, pending my school's certification.
You really don't need to have great credit in order to be approved for it. You can have the best credit, and still be rejected for having a $20 account turned over to collection. Equally, you can have no credit history at all, and a FICO of like only 500, yet be approved if you don't have any "open collections" items on your report.
All the people you hear of being rejected were probably going through a similar situation as I described above.
Good Luck to you both. All money is good money. 🙄

Some of the Grad PLUS loan benefits;

1. Fixed interest rate
2. MUCH better repayment benefits/incentives offered by lenders
3. Insured against disability/death
4. Unlimited annual limits (Cost of attendance 'minus' any fin. aid/stafford received) - regardless
5. Option to consolidate
6. Intrest is only capitalized once over the life of your loan (upon graduation)
