I posted this on the Dental Forum, but I've only gotten one perspective so far, so I am hoping to get some more insight on the predental forum. Thank you for your time.

"I am excited to be accepted to these two great programs. I have had a deposit down at ASDOH since Dec 1, but got into NYU this week and have 14 days to make my decision. I am truly torn -- there are many pros to each side, but they are two VERY different schools (and well, they're both pretty expensive).

NYU Pros:
Many opportunities that come with a large university (networking, organizations, etc)
More culture, exposure to many different walks of life
Living in NYC (as opposed to Mesa)
The name --nyu is an internationally known university.
Never a patient shortage
Same time zone (2 hour flight to go home in FL rather than 4 hours & 3 time zones)

NYU cons:
Cost of living
360 students per class (less personal feel)
Tougher curriculum - students seemed very stressed at interview

ASDOH Pros:
Personalized feel -- 76 students per class (my interviewer reached out to me after my acceptance and has been helpful and available to answer any questions I've had since Dec.--no other school has done that in my case). I like the idea of being able to stand out in a small program
Smaller cost of living
Less stressful curriculum (block schedule where you take 1 class at a time)

ASDOH Cons:
I am from FL and many dentists over here have never even heard of ASDOH
Less established program (began in 2002?)
Not easy to get back home quickly
Mesa (Arizona in general is exciting to me, but Mesa is not)"

Again, any info you could provide, or unique opinions -- I'd love to hear. It's been a couple days, and I still haven't been able to pick a clear winner.

Sounds like ASDOH is a better fit academically. I wouldn't put too much stock in dentists in FL knowing what ASDOH is. It's still a dental school. As for getting back home quickly, if you really HAD to get home, you would find a way. That 2 hour flight from NY might turn into a 3 day flight if the weather is bad. Maybe the right question to ask is how many grads of ASDOH haven't found a job yet. The patient pool might be an issue, I don't know, but Arizona isn't exactly a wealthy state so there might be a better pool then you think? Maybe ask on the ASDOH page?

Doesn't ASDOH send out their students for clinic rotations and they see loads of patients? I never read their school having an issue with patients and often read that they run circle among other students.

And ASDOH might be further away from home, but have you actually compared the two schools regards to day off? Perhaps the breaks are longer in ASDOH.

I'd vote ASDOH but I'm obviously bias. I have heard only good things about the amount of patients you see while at ASDOH
