I have a few questions about the wait list:

1) does anyone who isnt accepted right away from the interview get wait listed?

2) how many people are on the wait list...?

3) how will NYU narrow it down?

4) what can I do to get in?

The waitlist is not ranked. It is very random and pretty much all the people that don't get accepted end up in the waitlist after interview, but their list moves fast and your chances are not bad. I would say call dr meja and talk to her. Be ready because she asks you few questions over the phone. I know few people that got in this way.

when should I call her? do you recommend that I wait until after the interview process is done? or sooner the better

Difinitley talk to her and introduce yourself at the interview if you have not had an interview yet. Also call her at her own office, she usually picks up the phone and just talk to her. Honestly based on her reaction tou you would know.
