A few things:

1. It is ludicrous to judge a school based on their website. The fact that they have a good web designer has nothing to do with the quality of the school. The opposite is also true.

2. I also don't see what a mobile van has to do with anything.

3. I personally was not impressed with the facilities, but that was just me. You can't judge from a website.

4. NYU is NOT a bad school. I was accepted and considered it, but for me (and I think a lot of other people), it was simply WAY too big and WAY too expensive. If you are ok with being a number and taking those kinds of loans, then you should consider it.

All that being said, you need to make a decision for yourself, not based on what people on SDN will tell you. If you are interested, go for the interview, check out the facilities, neighborhood, etc in person and form your own impression. Good luck!

My personal theory was that I couldn't judge anything about a school until I visited it and saw with my own eyes. If you live nearby, take a tour of the school. If not, wait until your interview before you decide which schools are for you.

I started my application process not having any #1 choice. They were all just school names. It wasn't until I visited each of the schools I applied to at interviews until I saw what they were like and which I though I would fit into the best.

That being said, my personal opinion of NYU is that since it has such a large class, there can be a lot of variation in the education you get there. As with any school, you can make the best education out of the worst situations merely by your personal motivation to succeed and if you strive for excellence.
At a school like NYU, it may be easy to skate by and not learn a whole lot if you don't put a lot of effort into it. This is also true of many schools.

You need to be self-motivated to get what you want to get out of any dental school.

Good assessment. You have to go out and become proficient, it isn't an assembly line that you just ride. If you just settle, or always seek out the easy instructor, I get the sense that it would be possible to graduate without really knowing what you are doing.
