I heard that some candidates get accepted to NYU without interview if they have extremely good GPA/DAT.
When do they notify the acceptance? would that be Dec.1?

Well you cant know if you are Accepted before Dec 1,
They could not tell you anything until you are accepted (no interview invite)
or

They plan to interview you Dec 16th or something but then BAM accept you before you are interviewed.

I still can't understand how 516 people can be accepted and while only 400 is interviewed. And also, the class size is 232.. what is going on?

They are the only school that accepts people without interviewing them

Every school accepts more than Enroll, depends on the school how many over they need to go.

Not everyone who gets an acceptance will Enroll.

where do you get your info? according to the adea and Dr. Mejia they interview all their acceptances...

just a thought... what if they interviewed and waitlisted/rejected them last cycle... maybe those people didnt necessarily need to interview again and just got acceptances... maybe that would skew the stats... and again, just a thought

I'm pretty sure they don't do this anymore. A few years back there were a few schools who did this but I think it has died out.

FYI we just got an e-mail from Dean Bertalomi with some encouraging information for people thinking of going to NYU:

* We continued to decrease our dependence on tuition. As a source of the College’s operating funds, tuition dependence decreased from 72% just a few years ago to 58% today.

* The applicant pool for the DDS curriculum remained robust and continued to increase, with a total of 4,657 applicants for the 235 slots available in the first- year class. This is an increase of 157 applicants over the applicant pool for the 2006-07 academic year, and an increase of 749 over the applicant pool for the 2005-06 academic year. What makes this so remarkable is that while applications to dental schools nationwide have declined, applications to NYUCD have increased.

* Academic outcomes continued to improve as evidenced by student performance on Part I of the National Board Examination in Dentistry. The April 2008 report showed a failure rate for NYU students of 1.7%, compared with a national failure rate of 3.7%. This is an incredible achievement inasmuch as the NYU College of Dentistry student body is four to five times that of a typical dental school—suggesting that board scores would be expected to regress toward the national mean. Performance on Part II of the examination has also improved, though not as dramatically.

Good to hear that information...I just got an e-mail for an interview invite to NYU...need to call them first thing tomorrow morning to schedule it 🙂
