Hey SDNers,
Thought I would start off a thread for those who are sure they will be attending NYU College of Dentistry this fall. Welcome, and I hope we get to know each other better so that we can make the transition to dental school a lot less stressful once we get there.

I'm set on NYU!

wsup inddent,

wut a coincidence. I will be joining you at NYU this fall, and I'm also Indian (Guju).

So, u got any housing plans?

I'm thinking about dorming just cuz it would be easier for classwork, etc. But I'd much rather share an apartment. What are your thoughts?

Hit me back.

I'll be joining you guys too. I think NYU is a great school despite the comments the school has received from few people on this forum.

I don't have any housing plans as of yet. My brother works in the city and he might buy property near city / close to NJ so commute is only 20-30 minutes. I'll probably live with him if he gets a place, but otherwise, i haven't thought about it.

BeamerM3, i'm gujarati too!

where did you guys go to school?

I went to Rutgers New Brunswick in NJ. If you're still looking for apts., we should definately meet up and try to get a nice apt. I'm available for the next 2 months. Anybody else is welcome!

Hooray for GUJUs!

I won't know for another month if i have to get an apt or not..so I'll def contact you if i need one.

Indy why you be torturing my already tortured soul? :meanie: You know there are those of us still trying to make up our minds, and here you're rubbing your, I'm so certain in my face. Heart breaking =`(

But congrats on making your decision. I'm unhappy, um I mean happy for you! 🙄

Damn, this thread is dominated by desis also...I'm South Indian...we put the Natak in Karnataka...but, people don't believe me when I say I'm from south...

Anyway, yeah I'm looking at places in New Jersey and Manhattan itself...open to buying or renting at the moment...still have to get serious before I leave for India soon.

Anyone have any big plans before starting up in September?

Back to work...
Indy

P.S. I'm sorry Mysteree! Forgive me, but I live to torture you🙂 Besides, your a tough lady, and whatever decision you make...just know it will be the wrong one unless you decide on NYU! 😛

I will be at NYU next year. I am looking at apartments in Jersey. Any advice?

i think the cheapest possible place thats still under a 30 minute commute would be jersey city

i found an apt for 850 bucks across the street from the PATH train station... the place could have 2 people living in it, but i havent decided if i want a roommate or not...

the path train commute is a 15 minute ride to NYC and a 4-5 block walk to the school... i've done the whole trip in under 30 minutes so i can make sure its a short commute...

another possibility would be hoboken... its a lot more expensive... my brother rents a small 1 br apt for 1500 a month... and thats over 5 blocks from the PATH station there... but quality of life in hoboken is much better than jersey city...

i found my apt off craigslist... when you do a search for apts in NJ, just type in path station and you'll see apts that are either somewhat close or really close...

is this in newport? 850 is realllllly GOOD, if it's in newport!

Indy, you "claim" to be sorry, but I can just bet you were smirking as you wrote that. Woe is me, people are out to torture me! (I even rhyme, as I whine) I like your logic at the end. Now I will have to give it some serious thought.

no, its in jersey city... i know jersey city isnt the safest of places, but the apt is literally across the street from the path station and its cheap... anytime i wanna go out to a bar or something i'm a 4-5 minute train ride to hoboken, and a 15 minute ride to NYC...

not sure how much a commute newport is to NYC, but this is the best deal i've been able to find w/o needing a car and traveling for under 30 minutes...

Is it Jersey City Heights? Close to Dickinson HS?

Would u be taking the path from Journal Square to 22nd Street?

I ask because I grew up in JC and lived there for 15 yrs. I am actively searching for apartments in NYC. I came across Kips Bay apts. which are literally next door to the d school. If anybody else is interested in KB, wut are ur thoughts?

Do you have a website or something on Kips Bay apts? It'd be one of the options I'd like to look at. How much is rent there for a bachelor, or a studio?

Mysteree: The PATH train connects Manhattan, Hoboken, Exchange Place, and 3 parts of Jersey City (Grove Street, Newport, and Journal Square). It's not that dirty and goes super fast. So, living in NJ is ideal for those who want to save a little extra, whether it be in JC or Hoboken (although hoboken real estate is going up).

For Kips Bay Court, their website doesn't list any prices (you can just google it). But I'm definately interested in sharing a 2 or 3 bedroom apt. with d1s.

Kips Bay Court Apt was one of the apartments I checked out while interviewing at NYU last week. They told me that the studios start out at around $1800. They have one 3 bedroom avail now at around $4500. The nice thing is though that ALL utilities are included. THe only thing you pay is cable/telephone. THe website is:

www.kipsbaycourt.com

Check out these apartments as well:
