Hmmm... so my assumption was correct. Anybody who has more than 2 e's (like eeee) in thier screen name must be a female.

Good to meet you fellow NYUCDer.

Also, can you please tell us... how long do you shower for? 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours or eternity?
That's the most important thing for us to know i guess. right?

HMM...i was thinkin KIPS BAY apartments cuz they're so close to the school. But, when i passed by the other day, they looked kinda ghettto. But I'm down to live in a really nice apartment and even convert the living room into a bedroom. I hear the majority of manhattan students do that and save tons on rent.

Anyway, let's keep brainstorming....

How affordable is Kips bay?

Yup, I know students that split the living room (literally hire a contractor to put up an extra wall) at the Waterside Plaza Apartments...

Kips Bay apts are actually pretty decent compared to many of the apartments around. In fact, I think it is pretty nice! I went inside to see what it looked like and everything is updated. Kips Bay starts around $1700 for studio, $2000 for studio w/alcove, $2300 for 1 bedrooms...3 beds are at around $4400 (craziness!!)

is that extra wall easy to take down?

cuz 4400/4 is a sweet deal.

I thought the same thing...I've never heard of anyone putting up a wall to make another room. I didn't even think apartments would allow it. I would have to guess that it would be easy to take down since, really, all you're doing is knocking it down! My father-in-law is a contractor and I've seen him knock down walls like its nothing...

FYI - I think the guy who told me that they did that in their apartment said it costs around 2k to put up the wall...but they did it at Waterside Plaza Apts which is walking distance as well. As for Kips Bay Court? I don't know if they would allow it...

why not divide the living room with a see through curtain...or for the more adventurous...a one-way mirror? even better! ponder that why don't you...

And to think, I was giving co ed apartment some thought.

Indy-One way mirror! =o

Thanks for the apartment links 🙂

I don't plan on bringing my truck...parking in NY is ridiculously expensive...not only that, who will have time to drive around and beat commute times while having to study?

Train is the best option...and I'm hoping to get a place pretty close by to NYU. I'll probably head up there at the end of April to check out a few cribs...

I'm also gonna start lookin at places in about 2 weeks. I'm pretty good with the area, and one of my good friends is a D1 at nyu and did a lot of apt. hunting in nyc. Let me know if you wanna meet up. I wanna seal the deal on this apt. thing and go away from may-aug.

Thanks 🙂

Yeah, I love Grey's Anatomy, it's taken over my love for Friends. However, Lost never grabbed me. Welcome to the world of TV Prodom.. I hereby knight thee, Rise Sr. Beemer and join us at the couch

This summer, I'm gonna be a Professional TV Junkie.

Hey BeamerM3,
That would be cool to meet up and check out a few places, but it seems like a good investment for 4 years to buy property instead- with current financing I could work out the mortgage to come to the same thing that I would pay for in rent...and then sell after 4 years and use some of the money to pay off loans...which I will be desparate to do seeing that the $300k debt is going to break my back in the few years after we graduate. With real estate on the downfall nationwide, it looks like a good time to buy.

I wish you the best in finding a place though. Look forward to meeting you all at orientation 😉

Indy

I did that for undergrad, with the help of my brother of course. Real estate is the best investment especially for school with college kids. I don't plan on doing the same in nyc, I am constantly bullying Rutgers undergrads to pay me their rent.

Good luck on finding good property. Let me know if you need a loan consultant, I used to work for Washington Mutual. I still know a few people there.

Buying a property in NYC = impossible for me.
I figured if i eat only one burrito per day and drink some milk i can come up with my first month's rent.

Nice taste re: grey's

If I did want to share an apt w/someone, anyone know how to find sane people? 🙂 I don't want to end up like Bridget Fonda in SWF, what a horrible thought. I wonder where it came from. 😱

Sane people in Dentistry? Goodluck finding them.

Gettin' Lucky IN Kentucky!

Hey Allyzun .... I see that you're from Louisville! I actually took my dat's there. My parents live in Owensboro, KY. I didn't grow up there, my parents moved there for a business venture. The people at that Sylvan center were really nicee!

Anyway, just glad to hear from someone in KY.

Question for the NYC residents. Any idea on how much NYC real estate has been increasing and/or has it hit a bubble? I'm considering, well my parents are, investing/buying a condo and want to make sure it will be a worthwhile investment. Thanks.

Hey, I didn't say I was going to room w/ a dental student 🙂 So I still have hope, and most importantly, they must be neat. I can't live with a messy roommate.

Wow, Beamer! That's awesome...I'm actually from LA but I moved to Louisville last Sept. for work. It's been a cool experience living out here but unfortunately I'm starting to get bored in Kentucky rather than lucky, haha. Never though I'd say it, but can't wait to start school again!

Hey guys/gals,

I'm attending NYUCD in the fall and I need to find a roommate. I am an Asian female currently living in Nor Cal and I'm looking for a female roommate, preferably another dental student. I am willing to live with more than one other person.

Also, if there are any 2010 NYUCD students in Nor Cal, it would be great to meet up.

Any interests, please let me know.

Allyzun-I'm from la as well, so you're going to NYU for sure?

anyone know anything about the dorms?? I mean is it worth it? I heard that at least half the class chooses to stay there...I know they guarantee you a room, but do you think its a safe bet to just rely on getting one??
