I've heard people/advisors say not to have someone in your class be your roommate because it could get competitive or you might get sick of seeing each other day in and out. I've heard other people it's a great support system! And then I heard other people say to try to get a grad student roommate not in the dental school, because they'll be in a similar situation (a lot of studying, etc). What are y'alls thoughts?

Many of my classmates live together and they have a great time.

But it really depends on who you get.

Most of my class lived with classmates first year. Worked out for most. I think the hard part is same as undergrad in that you don't know their habits. As far as getting sick of seeing each other, there are 80 other people in my class I can hangout with during the day so if you'll get sick of seeing them all day everyday, find different people to hangout with at school.

call people you are considering and try to get to know them first. Ideally Facetime them so you can see what their room looks like! Some people were happy with their roommates, a lot of unhappy roomies too

Just like life -
Some of my classmates were like this guy:
