Hi............

I've not made my final decision on which school I will attend yet, but let me ask this question.

I am strongly interested in NYUCD summer research opportunity. (Those who have no research:laugh: experience can apply this!!!!)

However, I really don't know how this program works. (Frankly, I am a bit afraid~~~:meanie: because I have zero research experience)

Btw, I've learned statistics, and performed a few in-class quantitative & qualitative survey research methods before.

What can I expect from this program?
What do you guys recommend me to do now if I want to prepare for this program?

PLZ HELP ME NYUCD PEOPLE~~~~~~~~~

PS)Is it really difficult to do this? (Btw, it sounds so fun!!)
ANY REALISTIC INPUT WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED~~

YEAH MOST IMPORTANTLY~~~~~What am I going to do during this program? (Can you just describe it in the aspect of future dental student like me?) I really want to hear about it from you guys~

Are you spending all night long in a lab?
Are you doing all odd jobs there?
Do I have to buy tons of books?
What do I do during 3min student presentation?
What kinds of skill are required? 😕

What up mang.
I personally didn't do summer research entering D1, but a couple of my friends have. Its really not that hard...do a couple assays here and there... no books... minor presentation later on in the year if you decide to go to a conference. If you got into dental school then you should be competent enough to do any type of research they throw at you. Some mentors will grill your ass, so I can't say it will be EASY. I highly recommend doing it if you want to spend your last free summer in school. You'll probably make a few good friends before the incoming D1 class joins you.

I myself have been accepting into the Honors in Research Program for D1 (between D1 and D2 year). That means you might see me if you're doing the same type of research! In any case if you do plan on coming to NYUCD and can afford a quarter million dollars tuition, then I say go for it. Its a great step up for those who are aiming to specialize (I'm assuming you're at least a little interested in post grad?)

You will be worked like a PhD student if you get lucky

So, I am sure that the summer program at NYUCD must be a great offer!!

However, I really need to know if this is the right time for me to get my foot in the door.

It's because I think I also have to do something else during this time.

OK~~Let me put my cards on the table.
Something else I should do during this time vs Summer research participation (Oh~if I am accepted to this program!!)

Btw, the due date for the application is impending!!

Hm...sounds like I can have many additional opportunities to participate in research at NYUCD during "the 4years", too.

I think I must participate in research at least once. (Who knows if I will find my new academic aptitude & interest)

CAN I DO IT LATER? HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH WHILE YOU ARE STUDYING AT YOUR DENTAL SCHOOL?

PLZ GIVE ME A FEEDBACK ASSP!

PS) CAN I ALSO CANCEL IT (IF ADMITTED) LATER IF I HAVE TO DO SO?
I am talking about their summer program for new coming students.😎

hey. you guys should really do the research program. i didn't do it but all my friends had fun.

Does this program accept all students who fill out the appllication?
And when do they know who they will be working with?

Thank you

I didn't do the pre-D1 program, but I met up with a researcher when I got here and did some work through D1 and during the summer between D1 and D2. The summer program is an excellent, relatively low-key introduction to research. And since our dean is so big on NYU becoming the number one research school (he came here from UCSF which is currently number one thanks to him) the school will litterally throw money at you. They're paying me to present a poster at the IADR conference in Miami in April -- I'm pretty pumped.

Also, I think in the past most everyone who has applied has gotten in, but I know the number of applications has risen sharply and last year they were saying they were near the limit -- this year they may have to reject some people.

PM me if you have any other questions.

I just talked to the research people today. They said they take the first 25 applicants basically. I applied immediately just today, but I'm nervous the 25 spots are already gone. Anyone hear anything about how many spots are taken yet? or remaining? I assume that when the lady emailed me back about my question she would have told me if there were no more available spots and to not attempt to apply at this point if that were the case.

is it paid?

didn't apply for the program yet.

And I think I am not going to apply for it. Instead, I will look for another opportunity later.

Btw, is the summer research program after yr1 also free? 😕
