O.chem test book

Not using it. At my school we are using Organic Chemistry, 7e by John McMurray.

We used the Janice Smith book. It's really good IF you get the study guide with it. Tons of questions to solidify your understanding.

I used the book by Paula Bruice. But, I did have Dr. Fleming as my professor at Temple U and he is GREAT if that counts for anything.

Don't get the Solomon's book. We use it for my school's ochem courses and it is only worth the money if you also buy the solutions manual (which is another ~$140).

My school uses this book also, and the campus book store sells the book in loose leak from with the solutions manual, but honestly any chem class I would suggest getting the solutions manual. But the Solomon's book is great, its really well explained, made easy.

I also use organic chem. as a second language, second semester topics.
Another amazing book, I learn everything in the Solomons text book, go the second language book, and it reinforces, explains and helps me organize everything

I guess you're right. The explanations are very good. I just wish there were more answers given in the back of the book that would permit someone to be effective without buying the solutions manual or some other supplement.

The Hornback orgo book is amazing, makes orgo really easy to understand (if you use it with organic chemistry for dummies ^_^)

mcmurray is awesome. the end of the chapter summary of rxns were gold.

We use McMurray too! 😍I love how short the chapter descriptions are because reading Chemistry textbooks makes me want to gauge my eyes out with a spoon. They're straightforward, and to the point and really clear. And I love the rxn summaries. The only thing I didn't like so much is that the text seems fairly oversimplified at times since its so concise and short. There's a steep learning curve outside the text that got a lot of people in my class in trouble if they didn't do it...But that's with any class I guess.

I think most of the Ochem books omit the solutions in the back. I know Jones's(the one I used) also had barely anything in the back. Most likely because it requires room consuming molecules being drawn out, or at least that's sound like a better excuse than just profit-alone.

As for OP, yep it's a good book.

Yup, so far I am more than satisfied with McMurray.

McMurry 7th edition and solution manual. I thought it did a good job simplifying the problems and presenting the reactions and mechanisms in an easy to understand way

That said, organic chemistry is a lot about doing practice problems, so I'd recommend a solutions manual for any book you buy
