I'm thinking about applying to Optometry School. I have a question about the OAT Bio section. Is there many questions on photosynthesis or taxa or ecology???

I would probably say from memory (I took it Summer 09) there was one taxa question and one ecology question. I think many people would agree that the Bio section was the most random. I was a bio major and there were a few questions that I never would have been able to prepare for.....like 'what type of seed is this' (?!). But I think the scale is generous.

YES! I got that same question too. I was like WHAAAT? Lol. I also got some random anatomy questions. But yeah, I think I only had one taxa and maybe a couple ecology questions. I feel that anything is fair game for the bio section!

BumbleBee86, I wish I could give you a nice outline of topics, but everything is fair game for bio. I give my review books NO credit for my score in that section. It was my Biology degree and only my degree that pulled me though.

For ecology, I just reviewed major terms from my old ecology notes and that pretty much did it. Terms I looked up were: Adaptive radiation, Convergent evolution, Genetic Drift, Allopatric/Sympatric speciation, Founder effect, Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium

For taxonomy, just the gist of kingdoms and phylums is enough.

I think photosythesis had a grand total of 1 question. I would be more worried about every other random plant-related question. Again, my plant science classes pulled through. (I totally knew what seed that was. 😛)

tresrisque, I am certain you would have scored at least 40 points higher in bio if you had taken Physiology before the exam. Seriously. 🙁
