Hey guys, soo i just wanna contribute back to those who've contributed n have helped me understand and be more comfortable with the OAT. I just too the OAT this afternoon soo before I forget, heres my short take on each section.

Bio: This section for me was ridiculous, like there were at least 15 questions that I easily had no idea what the answer could be. For me, the kaplan did not prepare me at all for bio, I'm not too sure what I could have done. Like seriously at least 10 questions were NOT covered in the big blue kaplan review book. For example they asked which of these bones are not in the forearm...and one question was asking about which one of these specific processes (gives you all these terms) does the sperm utilize in order to fertilize the egg. Stuff like that just...yeah it sucked. It's possible that I just got a bad batch of bio questions but even if it was open book, I doubt the big blue kaplan review book could give me the answers.

Gchem and OChem: Nothing surprising, pretty straighforward, ochem had a handfull of reaction questions.

Reading comprehension: Basically I was freaking out for this section while I was studying for the OAT because I was getting half the answers wrong (if not more) for the kaplan practise sets and their practise exams. On top of that I found it difficult to read through all new terminology and immediately try and put it together (the kaplan passage about the teeth/dentin/enamel killed me in the practise). However the OAT I wrote today was really simple to understand and seemed shorter in length than the practise tests (possibly because I was actually able to comprehend with the material). I had 1 science passage and 2 non-sci passages. The questions and answers were short, most were straightforward. Anyways considering the fact that I never read books (though I randomly wiki things and read them), I was happy with my RC score.

Physics: I was also freaking out for physics because its always been one of my weakest subjects. The questions in the Kaplan practise tests killed me and I've never really understood physics well. I tried my best to understand and memorized all the formulas and attempted to understand the concepts. Anyways as everyone says, the kaplan physics is overkill. I have to agree, the OAT I wrote was very simple, the questions were short and many were just..plug the formula..which surprised me. One question asked which of these were the same units as a J or N which was a dead give away. Few optics questions which you just have to memorize what happens when you change the focal length and in this situation what kind of image this produces. Though I marked at least 10 questions, I did fairly well.

QR: Yeah...hated this section. I've always been good at math but I haven't practised in 2-3 years. My biggest enemy was time, I highly doubt there was any question I couldn't solve if I had time but..I sorta panicked in this section because I felt like I was running out of time. I ended up having to guess at least 10 questions. Take my advice, study AND practise trig. The trig questions weren't difficult but you have to be able to solve them fast and they aren't just what is sin45 or what is the length of this side given this angle, they were more complicated. I can't remember the questions but there were at least 4-5 trig questions and the kaplan book does NOT prepare you for them. There just isn't enough trig practise in the book, and I felt the ones they give you were just too simple.

Final words: I feel fairly happy with my score, it was decent enough that I've decided not to retake. Good luck to everyone else 🙂

i have to agree with u on the bio stuff. I had the same thign when I took it last and I ended up doing poorly in bio. I want to improve my bio score but I never took anatomy in university so I guess I should read up on all the bones in the Body?I remember getting anatomy questions. (1 or 2) I used Kaplan to prepare as well and they didn't really cover anatomy.

yeah I'm not exactly sure how I would study bio, if I were to re-take. Theres just too many little things thats not covered by Kaplan. I feel like studying anatomy by yourself is overkill (probably gonna just have 1 question on it). I mean if you're taking an anatomy course then it'd be fine because you're studying for your school grade too. It just seems theres a bit of luck involved with the questions you get..

Definitely a lot of luck. I got no anatomy questions, and no plant question either. Like you said, it's definitely overkill to try to study all of anatomy on your own. The best preparation probably comes from undergrad when you take a lot of biology courses so that you have a strong foundation overall.

I don't like Kaplan at all. First they do a good job at explaining answers, and then as you study on, it's like they got "lazy" with explaining answers and suddenly just goes "refer to text" as the explanation. 👎 And it skipped out a lot of things (ie. embryology, anatomy). I looked up embryology section on my own, because I wasn't satisfied with they way they were presenting it. They cram stuff like excretion down to a mere few pages. I used Princeton Biology book for this section and it's awesome; sometimes a bit detailed which is good - I find that Kaplan sometimes lacks detail and I have to refer to other books/sources myself.

Treat kaplan as an outline, and try to rely on other things like your textbooks, internet, etc. Kaplan GC and orgo sections are still alright however.

Luck Yes.

I ONLY used kaplan, nothing else, my bachelors in psych (not bio), and scored a 400.

Did you only use the Kaplan book or did you have access to the online workshops? because there's a lot of information covered in the workshops that is meant to go with the book.
