Hey guys, soo i just wanna contribute back to those who've contributed n have helped me understand and be more comfortable with the OAT. I just too the OAT this afternoon soo before I forget, heres my short take on each section.
Bio: This section for me was ridiculous, like there were at least 15 questions that I easily had no idea what the answer could be. For me, the kaplan did not prepare me at all for bio, I'm not too sure what I could have done. Like seriously at least 10 questions were NOT covered in the big blue kaplan review book. For example they asked which of these bones are not in the forearm...and one question was asking about which one of these specific processes (gives you all these terms) does the sperm utilize in order to fertilize the egg. Stuff like that just...yeah it sucked. It's possible that I just got a bad batch of bio questions but even if it was open book, I doubt the big blue kaplan review book could give me the answers.
Gchem and OChem: Nothing surprising, pretty straighforward, ochem had a handfull of reaction questions.
Reading comprehension: Basically I was freaking out for this section while I was studying for the OAT because I was getting half the answers wrong (if not more) for the kaplan practise sets and their practise exams. On top of that I found it difficult to read through all new terminology and immediately try and put it together (the kaplan passage about the teeth/dentin/enamel killed me in the practise). However the OAT I wrote today was really simple to understand and seemed shorter in length than the practise tests (possibly because I was actually able to comprehend with the material). I had 1 science passage and 2 non-sci passages. The questions and answers were short, most were straightforward. Anyways considering the fact that I never read books (though I randomly wiki things and read them), I was happy with my RC score.
Physics: I was also freaking out for physics because its always been one of my weakest subjects. The questions in the Kaplan practise tests killed me and I've never really understood physics well. I tried my best to understand and memorized all the formulas and attempted to understand the concepts. Anyways as everyone says, the kaplan physics is overkill. I have to agree, the OAT I wrote was very simple, the questions were short and many were just..plug the formula..which surprised me. One question asked which of these were the same units as a J or N which was a dead give away. Few optics questions which you just have to memorize what happens when you change the focal length and in this situation what kind of image this produces. Though I marked at least 10 questions, I did fairly well.
QR: Yeah...hated this section. I've always been good at math but I haven't practised in 2-3 years. My biggest enemy was time, I highly doubt there was any question I couldn't solve if I had time but..I sorta panicked in this section because I felt like I was running out of time. I ended up having to guess at least 10 questions. Take my advice, study AND practise trig. The trig questions weren't difficult but you have to be able to solve them fast and they aren't just what is sin45 or what is the length of this side given this angle, they were more complicated. I can't remember the questions but there were at least 4-5 trig questions and the kaplan book does NOT prepare you for them. There just isn't enough trig practise in the book, and I felt the ones they give you were just too simple.
Final words: I feel fairly happy with my score, it was decent enough that I've decided not to retake. Good luck to everyone else 🙂
