Im just scared for the Chem portion cause a lot of the questions in KAPLAN seem difficult.
And someone told me that apparently they test alot of theory on Ochem? I have been trying to learn all the diff synthesis reactions..
And what really scares me is that.
im a slow test taker...
I also Dont know how much detail Im supposed to go into while im studying since some ppl have told me that they test you on general things and others say its difficult/specific...
Im just sooo confused..😕😕😕😕😕
The worst thing to do is get all stressed about it, which is what you are doing. Here's a few things I did which helped.
You have the Kaplan book, so study it. Nothing on the test will NOT be in there. I did better on test day than on ANY of my full length practice tests.I really believe that Kaplan makes you fak out thing the questions are all going to be incredibly in-depth, but mine was more concept based. My only subscore under 300 was physics (290) and I was getting 220s on my practice. I was ecstatic when I got my results!
As for test day, wear comfy clothes. I wore yoga pants since I generally live in them anyway and the room was freezing regardless. They will ask you to pull out your pockets for security so this saved me a step too
🙂 I treated myself to a greasy yummy bacon egg and cheese from this amazing deli near my test. It put me in a good mood and the carbs from the bagel gave me quick brain food while the protein lasted longer. Also, arrive EARLY. nothing stresses you out like being late to a timed test. Get a cab or someone to drive you. (I had secret service drop me off!
😉 ) Any other little things that will make you feel better will help, like a good luck charm (that the test center will allow, I wore two necklaces together since that usually brings me good luck...lol)
You mentioned you're a slow test taker. I'm not, but I have the nagging voice in my head which causes me to second guess myself which is always annoying. I eventually go with my intuition but I always want to go back when I can't. Dont skip the tutorial since it's 15 minutes you can use to get used to the station, adjust your chair, etc. Also if they offer noise canceling headphones, TAKE THEM. I had people taking the essay portion of the GRE next to me and I never thought typing could be so distracting. Each section of the test has a timer on the top corner so you can keep your time. They also have pop up warnings at 15 minutes, 5 and so on. You will most likely have extra time in natural sciences, but not enough in QR. Use the Kaplan strategies to eliminate and make a best choice, it's better to guess on 10 questions than answer 3 and leave 7 blank. Blank questions get you nothing, guessing gives you a chance. The mark button helps you come back to questions you want to skip, and at the end of each section there is a summary page to make sure you answered all the questions before you move on.
Take the breaks! You need them, don't jut try to power through, you'll get burned out on the last section anyway. At the end there is a survey which says optional but it's not. Put something in there and while your heart jumps into your throat while the screen turns blank, it is calculating and you get results instantly.Get excited or freak out here and only here. It's not like OAT is pass fail, so determine your plan of action if you don't like your score, but definitely don't go into the test with a bad attitude, it's s recipe for disaster and a self fulfilling prophecy.
Sorry for the long winded post, but just prep the best you can until the test and go kick ass.
