Hello! This is my first post, and I just had a quick question about study guides for the OAT.

I've been pouring through OAT forums and threads about study materials for the OATs and I was wondering if I studied from the KAPLAN DAT study guide, a Princeton Review AP physics study guide and some sort of computerized practice test software would that be enough? I'm trying to decide if I want to buy the DAT KAPLAN study guide or the MCAT one. I do realize that MCAT is overkill, but I'd rather be over-prepared than under (I have quite a few months to study). But if just the Dat and physics is good enough and can get me a 350, then I'll be happy with that (and have 60 more dollars 😀).

One thing to note is that there are some physics pieces of information that I am missing. I took AP physics in high school, but did not go to the extra weekend classes for the extra information for the actual test, soooo I'm missing optics and such. I also can't take the second semester of physics in college, because it coincides in class times as my organic chemistry. Is this AP physics book going to be good enough to teach me completely new information?

Oh and what is the best computerized test taking software for the OATs? Topscore?
Thank you very much in advanced!!!

If you already have the Kaplan DAT stuff, use it. If you dont, why wouldn't you just try and get the OAT version of the stuff?

What you described is basically what I used and I did well.

I would recommend topscore. I found it to "overprepare" me as you described you wanted. I found them pretty difficult, scoring 330s-340s in all sections. When I wrote the thing for real it was much easier (I scored 390 overall).

If you can, buy the Kaplan OAT materials (from the class!) (DAT materials are OK if they are more available to you). If you use the DAT stuff, definitely supplement your physics with something else (however I am unfamiliar with the Princeton Review stuff).

Then, buy the topscore or another computerized testing software.

Also, I would recommend getting the THIN purple kaplan OAT book (sells on amazon for 10-15 dollars). (note: this is different than the FAT kaplan book given to students who took the Kaplan Class). It is cheap and provides a nice amount of practice questions with answers.

Good luck.

Oh sorry, what I meant when I said Kaplan DAT Book, I meant the study guide they sell in Barnes and Nobles and places. I've been trying to get a hold of the Kaplan OAT materials from the course, but I haven't found any sellers that still have their materials yet.

Thank you for the information on the materials. I'll definitely look more into buying topscore and the little OAT Kaplan book and I'll keep looking for those Kaplan OATs materials.
