OB anesthesia @ Parkland

I'm a CA-3 doing a 6-month research track in the OB division at Parkland. We have one fellow right now, but he will be done in December.

Right now, we have 6 studies that we are actively working on. Dr. Sharma and many others in the OB division are well published. Dr. Sharma also has a coagulation chapter in Chestnut. While reading Chestnut, you'll notice many landmark papers out of UTSW quoted. Just look for these authors Sharma, Wallace, Philip, Sidawi, and Shearer.

You can do as much clinical you like . . . or no clinical. Most residents that do their residency here and then go on to do the fellowship do mostly research since their OB clinical experience was so strong in their residency. There is plenty of manpower so that the fellow is able to work on research. If you need more clinical experiences, they are abundant ... 16,000 deliveries/year with 45% being high-risk.

For anyone wanting OB research and/or clinical experience, I would highly recommend Parkland. Hope this helps.

yo, UTSW or anyone else who might be inda know... any scoop on the OB fellowship at Parkland? i hear they do almost 20K deliveries a year. how many fellows are there? clinically i'm sure it's a great gig, but how is it for research experience? are they so busy running the anesthesia service that there's not much time for academic pursuits? thanks for any info...
