Has anyone had experience applying for Resolution 42 while in an ACGME ob/gyn residency program? As a (hopefully) incoming PGY-1 next year, I have begun looking into it more seriously. I am concerned with the rotation requirements that the AOA indicates, as there are numerous rotations that no ob/gyn programs include in their intern year or any other year for that matter. Rotations supposedly required by the AOA during PGY-1 in order to qualify for Resolution 42 are:
  • 2 months general internal medicine
  • 1 month critical care
  • 1 month emergency medicine
  • 1 month general surgery
  • 2 months gynecologic surgery
  • 1 month neonatology
  • 3 months obstetrics (hospital based)
  • 1 month of OB/GYN Ultrasound
  • NOTE: Must spend one-half day per week throughout the four years of residency, when in obstetrics or gynecological surgery, in an obstetrical or gynecology clinic
I don't know of any programs that require IM or general surgery months of their ob/gyn residents. Very few require NICU rotations and less than 50% of the programs I have applied to require EM and/or critical care. While they may be flexible to allow some change in rotations, I cannot imagine any program allowing (or that SHOULD allow in the first place) such a varied mix of rotations. Any suggestions, personal experience or advice is GREATLY appreciated from any and all Ob/Gyn residents/graduates who have had any experience with Res 42. Thanks!
