Hello:

I am new to this site and posting threads, etc. So, if I've posted to the wrong group please let direct me in the right direction.

I am a non-traditional student. I'm 29 y/o and actually in an 11mth accelerated BSN program. I chose this route because I felt i was too old to become a doctor. However, unfortunate circumstances have caused me to sit out for a quarter. During this time I have realized that I want to pursue my dreams. I don't think I'm too old to become a doctor and will eventually follow that path (still deciding on how/when to go about it).

With that being said, I'm interested in becoming an OB/GYN, but I also have a great interest in human sexuality, sexology, and sex therapy. Does anyone know how an MD can also be licensed in that latter mentioned field? Should I pursue that prior to med school? Are there schools that do dual degrees in MD/Human Sexuality? Or, should I go the MD route and find some sort of certificate program?

Any information will help! Thanks!😀

If you have a very strong interest in sex therapy and human sexuality, I would think that would steer you more towards psychiatry than OBGYN work, as you will only be working with women and not in a therapists manner. I would definitely purse the MD route now and you can always look into a psychiatry residency when the time comes.

Depending on what exactly you mean, psychology would probably be more the venue for that.

I forgot to mention the reason why I would like to become an OB/GYN is because I am very interested in handling gynecological disorders/diseases, fertility, and pregnancy. I am aware it is piling on a lot, but I have strong interests in both areas.

I do plan on talking to various schools and counselors to determine my options. Please continue to share your thoughts/opinions.

Thanks!

You could do something like this -- MD + 4 years OB/GYN residency + 3 years Urogyn Fellowship.

Associate Clinical Professor Dr. Stacey Wallach received her undergraduate degree from Brown University with an ScB in Biology. She received her medical degree with honors from State University of New York and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from New York University. Dr. Wallach completed her Fellowship training in Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Wallach’s areas of interest include female incontinence, prolapse and female sexual dysfunction.

O wow, thanks so much for that information! I'm so glad you mentioned Urology b/c I always wanted to combine working w/the reproductive systems of women & men! Wow, this broadens the spectrum by making me aware of multiple options! Thanks so much!

What about an Andrology Fellowship after OB/GYN residency. Is anyone in that field or know anything about it?
