OB-GYN Doc Abusing Patients

Most of us at one point or another during elementary school have heard someone joke about being an OB-GYN to make it easier to be with the ladies. Surfing the internet tonight I found out that somebody actually did it. I personally thought the guy got off easy for doing such disgusting things. I hope he comes out of prison bankrupt from the civil suits. Here's the link:

I've always been suspecious of male gynecologists. Although Dr. Cosby was an obstetrician. Seemed like he delivered a baby every other episode. Now that was a good show. Father doctor, mother lawyer - inspiration to kids, I'd say.

But yeah. This guy sounds like a chap who got into OB/GYN for 'the wrong reasons'.
 
Damn it, it's douche-bags like this guy that ruin the field for the rest of us men interested in OB/GYN. Women are already uncomfortable with men in OB/GYN, this kind of thing just pushes public opinion further. In 20 years OB/GYN will officially become a soroity. 🙁 A big reason why I'm probably going into EM instead.
 
geez, didn't they make a movie about some evil ob/gyn and his twin?
 
I don't know why any guy would want to be an OB/GYN. It's nasty! Who wants to look at diseased vagina everyday?! =P

But in seriousness, it does take a very special/"unusual" kind of man. Some men though are very interested in womens' health, issues, and perhaps enjoy/prefer caring for female patients. They find that they connect with women easier, and have a more rewarding experience working with them. Also for OB there's the whole "bring a new life into the world" thing. You get the experience the only situation in which being in a hospital is a joyous occasion.

These men are stuck between a rock and a hard place though. Whereas women had to endure the "*****/Madonna" dichotomy for centuries, male OB/GYN-hopefuls have to deal with the "gay/pervert" dichotomy. I'm sure in reality, the vast majority, including myself, are neither (and not that there's anything wrong with the former!)

I've never thought about being a gyno, but now that I think of that area in general, I wouldn't mind being an OB. And I like your second sentence - hits it on the head nicely.

I think I'd much rather save a current life than "deliver" new life. The world is overpopulated as is and I'd hate to believe I'm contributing to this problem everyday at work.

Heh, and yes I would actually rather be a urologist than gynecologist. Seeing diseased vagina constantly would probably make that region of the female anatomy much less erogenous to me. =P

Um, unless you provided the sperm, you wouldn't be contributing to the problem. In most cases, that baby is coming out whether an obstetrician plays a role or not. 🙂

Actually, a lot of women prefer male OB/GYNs. This has been discussed multiple times on this forum. And not only do many women prefer male OB/GYNs, but many more don't have a preference either way (I'm in the latter group). I know very few women who are uncomfortable with men in OB/GYN.

Sure, mostly women go into the field. But it's not because that's what patients prefer, at least I really doubt that. And OB/GYNs often love their jobs because they see mostly healthy patients, they get to deliver babies, and they develop good long-term relationships with women, for whom they are often a primary care provider as well. Liking these things is certainly not unique to women. So I'm not sure why people have a negative attitude towards male OB/GYNs. I'd suggest that attitude exists mostly among young males, who seem to be the ones posting it on this forum.

I have to agree with you on this one. I think that many men who contemplate going into OB/GYN think that they will be looking at women similair to Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, etc. Just not going to happen, but a man can dream i guess.

He's a doctor of education....not an OB/GYN

Um, the life isn't exactly new, it's already about nine months old. To alleviate the overpopulation, why don't you just euthanize all your elderly patients instead? 🙄

I'd like to be an obstetrician, but I'm not sure if the hours are something I want. We'll see - we've all got to rotate through it in a few years.

Don't OB/GYNs prescribe birth control and contraceptives, etc that would be preventing unwanted birth?

He was referring to Bill Cosby's character in the show. I think everyone knows he wasnt an OB/GYN in real life...although had he been I would have definitely thrown away my preference for female GYNs and been his patient. Nothing like a doctor who can make you laugh while you're being probed.

I agree too... and I'm not a man. There are lots of fields within medicine that I'll consider, but being, as Elliot puts it, a "bojingo doctor," is not one of them 😛

Wasn't there a kid in Kindergarten Cop whose dad "got to look at vaginas all day" ?
 
Looking at this from a psychological perspective, it makes sense when people tell you not to become a doctor just for monetary reasons, you have to like what you do. In so many of these cases involving doctors and sexual harrasment accusations, it seems that the doctor is driven to this particular behavior for one prime reason, he or she begins to find their work unfulfilling, and this in turn leads their minds to a sort of "bordem," if you will. They may not know it, but the feeling is there and could be the prime reason these doctors are driven to such inexcusable behavior. As they say, "An empty mind, is a devil's workshop."

My message to those a**holes who have become doctors for all the wrong reasons, FIND ANOTHER FUC*IN CAREER!!!!!
