  1. Resident [Any Field]
I was given an iPad at graduation from med school with the intent that I'd use it for residency. I had high hopes for purchasing all the major texts as ebooks that I could carry around without the bulk, yet easier to read than most portable devices.

To my dismay, no texts were available as ebooks until just recently. Both Williams and Creasy are now available from Amazon for the Kindle. (Kindle reader for iPad/iPhone are free apps). I hope many other publishers follow suit; I'd love to have Novak, Telinde, Gabbe, etc. available sometime soon.

Please click the "Tell the publisher" link in Amazon to help this process proceed.

[I also downloaded all of the practice bulletins and have them all available, all the time along with my growing library of journal articles that are in a very-easy-to-read format, which has been VERY useful.]

I have only seen an iPad, but never actually used it. To my understanding you can access the internet through it, so you should be able to access Gabbe.

When I purchased the 5th edition of Gabbe last year I was given a code to access it online also at http://www.gabbeobstetrics.com/

I bought it mainly as a reference, and because it was easier to read than Williams.

True, however my hospital has no public wifi, and if there's no cell coverage, it's not possible. When it is possible, textbook sites are notoriously slow.

Not to be the killjoy here, but wouldn't just purchasing a kindle make more sense than a silly iPad? The battery lasts almost a month, it's smaller (thus fitting in your pocket better), and has wifi and 3G capability. And it costs about $100 cheaper than the iTouch. Yes, I said touch, not pad.

Just sayin'

I don't disagree, for just an ebook reader, kindle is awesome. The color nook looks pretty great also. I use an iPad because it was given to me, not because it's the end all be all.

I kinda just wanted to start a dialogue about the potential for ebooks as opposed to paper texts or the www.

Does your school use Access Medicine?
Several places I have been have Williams on there, as well as several other OB books, and non-OB books. Start at your library - u need web access, but they are free.
