I am now in my second week of OB and yesterday the 1st assistant (which means she did all the cutting, delivering, and closing) on a LTCS was a PA! I have to say that I was very impressed with her skills (although, I am only a third year and am easily impressed). She seemed just as proficient as a resident. I didn't know that PAs could perform surgery. The triage unit seem to have several PAs and I really am learning alot from them as far as taking an OB hx.

Thanks for sharing that positive experience! Glad you have a knowledgeable PA to share their expertise with you on your rotation.

I have not heard of many PAs doing OB/Gyn surgery but I do know a PA who is the director of an OB/Gyn clinic in southeast Texas. She has been an OB/Gyn PA for almost 30 years! 🙂

take care

I wanted to bump this thread up and see currently if there are any ob/gyn PAs out there and ask what are your clinical responsibilities or what you have experienced in this field as a PA?

there is a 1 yr post grad obgyn residency at arrowhead in colton , ca.
folks come out of the program with great skills. one of my former students is on staff there now after completing the residency.
see www.appap.org for info on the residency.

I've been eying a few residency programs. I imagine they are extremely competitive.
