Can somebody set forth a list of the common "procedures" a typical OB/GYN would perform. So far I have:

1. deliver baby (vaginal)
2. deliver baby (c-section)
3. place cerclage

ps. I'm an MS1 and know less than nothing. I would have to know something just to bring myself back up to knowing nothing at all.

OBGYNs handle all GYN surgery, the procedures are too many to count.

Purely Ob procedures you can also count: IFEs, IUPCs, Fetal Pulse Ox, Amniocentesis.
Gyn procedures like someone said are too many.

don't forget, that in some ob/gyn residency programs the residents are even responsible for the circumcisions.

also forgot to mention that, as previously posted, gyn surgery involves sooo much, including laproscopic-assisted procedures, vaginal hysterectomies, open abdominal procedures, tumor debulking, lymph node disection, and much much more. fun stuff! 🙂

GO to your bookstore and pick up an OB/GYN text. Or Blue Prints look at the index. OB/Gyn is a blend of internal medicine, psychiatry, surgery, radiology, infectious disease, and endocrinology all pertaining to womens health.

While most think of OB/gyn's as surgeons the truth is that the specialty is considered primary care. Surgeries include any procedure on the uterus, ovaries, adnexa, bladder, rectum, and sometimes breast to the pregnant or gynecologic patient. Laparotomy or Laproscopic appraches abdominal or vaginal are used. Utrasound, CT and MRI knowledge of pelvic anatomy is essential. Then there is surgery on preganant/postpartum patients C-sections, cerclages, appendectomy, tubal ligations etc.

Good luck
